This disc is horrible. Maybe I just came in with such high expectations.
But, the record sounded great, the CD wonderful. This just lies there.

Also, all of the more recent stuff, videos of live performances etc., have all been wonderful.

For one thing, this is the most unimaginative 5.1 mix I have ever heard.
This is not a mixdown from the original multi-track tapes, but rather a mix of the sub-mixes.
So, no imagination on the drums.

Also, the sound is just flat. I cannot see how the sound could be worse than the redbook CD, as in, shouldn't it only get better from there? Or, at least be the same quality? But no, this is so lifeless. I am so used to clarity and dynamics from Rush, and this disc fails at this. Perhaps if I had never heard this album before I would be impressed. But this Blu-Ray fails to live up to the original. And the stereo mix has the same problems.

I had such high hopes when I bought it. And those hopes were dashed so fast.

This is one of the best BDs that I've heard. The 5.1 PCM mix is excellent. It's front-heavy but then again, it's rock music and having the assault coming from the front makes sense.

The surrounds bring forth some nice detail on The Camera Eye and Witch Hunt that I've never heard before. The beginning of YYZ also makes use of the 5 main channels with some nice separation.

The best aspects of this BD (that were missing from the previous CD releases) are the drums (on every song, particularly Tom Sawyer) and Geddy's bass (check out the end of Red Barchetta). Alex's guitar is also crystal clear throughout the album. Let's face it, the Rush Remasters CD was pretty gutless and muddy but this BD more than makes up for it. You can crank this BD up to 11 and it soars.

The 3 videos have the same audio options as the album. The picture quality of the videos themselves hasn't been touched-up but it's not a biggie. There are also a bunch of liner notes and photos, and hitting the subtitle button on your remote displays the lyrics.

Rush Moving Pictures, CD and Blu Ray. Thanks to this forum I was able to order this disc through Amazon.CA. I had to pay about $6.00 more than the Amazon.com but it kept being back ordered and unavailable. It was shipped out of Canada today and look forward to a proper review after I listen.
