If you're a fan of this album and the band I can recommend this sacd to you with little hesitation. Folk music was still in fashion in the early 70;s and America mixed this with rock and some very unique harmonies.....and you get this kind of music. Its a great idea to release this album on sacd. Its a terrific title. Always has been.

I do own some America cd's and they sound decent enough but also seem to be slightly remixed. And they sound nothing like this sacd.

This album being primarily driven by acoustic guitars showcases the sound of those instruments in a very gorgeous, lifelike manner. The guitars sound woody with beautiful string tone. Vocals, bass and soundstage are all rendered realistically. This being the big difference between the cd's and this new sacd. The total feeling of reality and lifelike timbres of the instruments. You can feel the musicians in the studio.

The music and the entire album is pretty awesome. If you like America this album is essential and should not be missed.

Steve Hoffman's mastering is very faithful and he did a tremendous job with tapes that sound very good. The recording is very full........some tracks being recorded louder than other tracks.....and Hoffman did not tinker with this. He seems to let the actual tapes dictate the overall sound of this sacd. I don't believe he remixed anything....just let the musicians and their music flow organically ......the exact way in which they were recorded.

When I listened to Horse with no name for instance...........I felt its power but I knew that I was used to the remixed cd version at first. So it took me a while to get that version out of my head. This new sacd version has more sculpted vocals that are lifelike....and the guitars are great. When the second verse kicks in..........its a real treat. Very powerful. The sacd has this song very relaxed and organic. Sandman and I need you are also good........3 hits on this album alone.

I am a fan of Hoffman's sacd work although some of his recent efforts have left me cold. I know that its not the mastering but the source used. When I hear his work with this sacd.I know I'm right in that assertion. Because this sacd is terrific in every way. A beautiful job in every way.
Highly recommended.
Great job Mr. Hoffman.

Homecoming anyone???

This may be the best sounding disc of the year. The fullness is amazing. It is so nice to hear the bass lines. The guitars and harmonies sound very crisp and lush. One can hear the placement of every instrument, both light and right as well as front and back. if you enjoy America, get this immediately.

America: America Hybrid SACD Stereo Only.

Quick Facts: Released in 1971 without A Horse With No Name. Due to the popularity of that song was re released in 1972 with that song. I didn't know that. This my first and only America album purchase in 1972. I saw them live at the Cow Palace 1989, for Earthquake Relief. Package says "Limited Numbered Edition" I did not get a numbered sticker as I have with others, I guess they went beyond the limited edition. AF released this in 2013.

Performance: Beautiful. Soft, easy going, acoustic guitar flavored rock music. Lots of credits due to recording but three guys (Dewey,Dan,Garry) make the band.

Stereo Sonics: Brilliant. Open, airy, warm, analogue, sound stage is wide and deep. Instruments resonate very well. Strings of guitars and wood neck tweaks are great. I did here some random clicking on track 8. Track 12 Pigeon Song with it's opening solo acoustic might as well be live in your listening space. This is a great stereo disc to turn up a bit and let it fill your house, well if your house is not a 32 room mansion. The piano and guitars on I Need You is amazing and lovely. The star of the show, A Horse With No Name, is guaranteed the best I ever heard.

Packaging: Typical Audio Fidelity with plastic jewel case and outer paper sleeve. 4 page mini paper booklet with musician track notes. No lyrics.

Giving Credit: Analogue reviews, the first person to review this disc has a better comprehension and is a really good review writer. We tend to like the same music so it is hard to go behind him but I do my best.

Great disc of 1971 mellow rock music.
