Rainbow: Rainbow Rising SHM SACD Stereo

It is hard for me to do a creative review with 3 discs, same band, same genre, and all 3 discs being from 1975 to 1978. Apologies if I seem a bit redundant.

Quick Facts: Rainbows second studio album released 1976. Ritchie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio are still in the band and the others are not. Cozy Powell comes in on drums, Jimmy Bain on bass and Tony Carey on keyboards. This SHM SACD released 11-26-2014.

Performance: Good and solid, sounds like Rainbow, of course. In the Rock world they always talk about meeting the expectations of the first album on the sophomore album. Not quite, do they make it is what I say on this venture. The keyboard synth sound seems to be a little more prevalent, almost to the point of coming to close to Deep Purple, but of course that could happen with Ritchie Blackmore. The last track, "A Light In The Black" is an epic hard rock 8:12 song that is worth the price of admission.

Stereo Sonics: I listened at 69 decibels, PCM 88.2Khz. As the other two reviewers mentioned this recording lacks a BIT of bass. My stereo system is solid and the lack of bass is not that bad. The parts that bug me more is it seems to be recorded a bit loud compared to the other two SACD's. This could be due to the lite bass, the music can sound a little shrill, meaning irritating at loud volume therefore having to turn it down a hair. I don't let things like this bug me too much and I just roll with it.

Packaging: Plastic jewel case with square corners. Single gatefold liner with photo of band, lyrics to only Stargazer, and minimal credits. Mini Japanese booklet, black and white with all lyrics in English.

In The End: This second disc is not as good as 1 and 3. I believe it has nothing to do with the remix to SACD but more to do with the original recording. If you ever want truth in how rock bands do there original recordings just read the story of Metallica's, and Justice For All, VS there self titled album.

Of course I am very happy to have this and the two other SACD's of Rainbow. It does not get the 5 stars that the other 2 get.

I want to say: do not scare anyone by their estimates. This CD was originally never shone outstanding quality recordings. And indeed the entire Rainbow. Universal Japan is not published record again. It only brings the highest quality that record that was made originally. As for this disc: there is lack of bass, mids on all systems will not sound good. That is clear. But despite the poor quality of the original disc is opened and analog sounds. With the inherent beauty of sound SACD.
