Performance:   Sonics:
Those of you who love classic jazz will most assuredly recognize this particular album from 1961. Its considered an audiophile classic. I own the original sacd mastered by Doug Sax. I still condsider it a very good disc sonically.

Then I heard this new Shm-Sacd.
From the first few notes I realized that I was in for an incredible journey. In short this new sacd is vastly superior to the original disc in every way. The best way to describe it would be 'SHEER PRESENCE'. The life-like feeling of the live event is extremely palpable. This disc is simply bigger, bolder and far more lush sounding.

The original disc had very nice bass but as a whole seems to be pushed back.....away from the listener. It's flatter and reduced in sound.
This new disc flows from the speakers and envelops the listener. The bass work is even better this time around and while most of the drumming resorts to cymbal washes and tidy accents.....during track three he solo's a little and the sound is so startingly life-like I was completely stunned. The bass runs are very impressive as well. There were a few times I thought that the jammering of the audience was coming from behind me. It's a great listen and when the disc ended I wanted it to go on. Wish it had the 4 bonus tracks the original disc had.

The very best shm-sacd's have certain characteristics that make them so appealing. This one has it all. It has the feeling of tape. Its completely non-digital sounding. No compression and completely trasparent. A MASTERPIECE

This is a very gorgeous shm-sacd..simply a beautiful listen.

Highly recommended. 5 +++++

In my top 4 best Jazz shm-sacd's.
