Performance:   Sonics:
This SACD has quickly come to be one of my favorites. Great tunes, great performances -- all remeastered by Steve "King Midas" Hoffman. The cover tells you that the song "Boogie Chillen'" was remastered from a 78 disc, as tape wasn't used for recordings back then, but this information is not a warning. It's more of a reason to marvel at Hooker's mastery and Hoffman's golden touch. Every track sounds like it was recorded recently -- maybe not yesterday, but certainly within the last few years. The sound is improved, but the tradition is still there. Hooker's tapping-foot percussion provides a hypnotic back-beat.

If you love the blues and/or John Lee Hooker and/or Steve Hoffman's work, you must have this disc.

I was a bit disappointed after I bought this SACD. I listen to Stereo sound. For the old recordings I believe the sound of this SACD is convincing but mono music on a SACD? Strange. The guitar rhythmn and the singing of John Lee Hooker is lovely and very natural. But nearly the complete album are choruses but I expected also some spectacular solos - in vain. Only the title "The Syndicator" fits to my prospects. If you're not an absolut John Lee Hooker Fan - I agree with Croc you better listen to this disc before you buy it.

when i listened to this disc for the first time i sayd "what is this? this sounds like cr@p!".

it didn't sound like modern good sounding CD.
neither it sounded as 40 years old.

there was an impression that mic's were pushed too close to John's mouth and his guitar.

in short - i was very pissed off by its sound.
it sounded to raw to me.
i didn't enjoy it at all.

after about a week i came back to it - and this time i liked it.
and after few tracks i started to enjoy it.

i don't know - perhaps i'm just a crazy "audiophile" - but i would recomend you better to listen this disc before you buy it.

as for the John performance - it's fantastic!
he is yonger - and more original anmd energetic.
