Bo Linde, unknown to most. Swedish composer who had a short life, 1933-1970. He was a wunderkind and entered the composition class of Lars-Erik Larsson at the age of 15. An excellent pianist, composer. But he was born in the wrong time, an age of avantgarde, of Blomdahl, Lidholm, Bäck. Linde was a reactonary, his idols were Britten and Shostakovich. Sweden is a small country, we haven´t got room for more than one "ism" at the time.

The violin Concerto has been recorded three times and they are all excellent. This one has the benefit of being recorded in wonderful sound. The music, it is his masterpiece, is somewhat in the same style as the Prokofiev concertos, the Walton. But it is also highly original in it´s solutions to formal problems. Two chunks of movements brimming with melody and lyrical impulses. And I must say that the ending is so lovely that a tear often comes falling. It is a place where you stop breathing. Karen Gomya is a wonderful soloist.

The Cello concerto is on a similar scale. A bit more influenced by Shostakovich though. Maria Kliegel is the ideal musician to take on this concerto, a great musician.

Linde´s life was short, he drank too much. And to be honest, I think that this sacd contains the best of his works.

just to totally agree with Edwins excellent report/ The violin concerto starts in the same manner as Sibelius vc but the similarity (except quality) finishes after the opening. Unkknown orchestra also play it excellently.Takes a few playings to get into it and it also reminds me of Szymanowski as well as others but it is original. The cello concerto is easier to fall for and larger in scale.Agree musicians are top rate, quality from Swedish label .Do hope there are more interesting works from this source..DSD recording standard case excellent notes ..Dave
