I really hate to gush but this is such a pleasant album! Lovely music, well-played, and with great sonics - what's not to like?
What is so appealing about this SACD is that this classical music is non-challenging for the regular listener with delights at every turn. The forces are about the right size and scope for the composer's intent. The recording venue has just the right amount of reverberance to give a sense of play space but without muddling the sound.
Even the packaging is great! A nice booklet and a tri-fold case in a high gloss material. Even the label on the disc is special with vibrant colors and lots of detail.
This is well-worth the extra cost over the average single SACD and will provide many hours of pleasurable listening and even handling!
If I have to make one criticism it is that the castanet playing is up to the rest of performance, being slightly wooden (no pun intended). Of course, what to I have to compare it to?
