Performance:   Sonics:
I have the reachmaninov recording form George Bolet for years now. This recording from Telarc is very good, problably better. Very musical. The Steinway sounds very natural. The higher notes sound very open and 'round' You can almost imagine a Steinway in your room. This is a sound i never heard on a Cd recording.
Telarc does a good job in registering the live performance form Lang Lang. Of course lang lang is a very good pianist and plays this very difficult piece of music very good. With a lot of feeling. This wonder boy knows what he is doing!
This is a direct DSD recording, so as you can aspect the sound is very natural and open.
some days ago i heard a live performance of Lang Lang in the concert hall. It is incredible how much resemblance this recording has with the real concert.
The sacd sound very natural. The Steinway is really a steinway. On the cd version the playing is much more difficult to follow, problably because you miss so much information.

For the people who don't know the third from Rachmaninov. It is a romatic piece of music with very soft pieces in it, very emotional. Very difficult to play, a lot of pianist didn't want to play it when Rachmanonov finished it. Most considered it too difficult to play, problably because Rachmaninov himself had big hands. After years the first who performed it was Horowitz.

It is now a very well know piano concert.

If you like Rachmaninov, i should highly recommend it!

Performance:   Sonics:
The sound is as good as that difficult venue allows, that is very very good, with just a litlle cloudy detail at the big tuttis. The performance is amazing and we have to go back to the mono recordings of Horowitz to find pianism of such distinction that completely silences criticism.

Performance:   Sonics:
“As the Rachmaninoff concerto challenges the (piano’s) scope and dimension, the SACD recreates its full range with authority, clarity and warmth...The disc’s realism is heightened by recording process that perfectly catches the ambience of the live recording.” -- Home Theater Magazine

Another beautiful Telarc recording. The only thing I don't like about live recordings is the sound of the audience is not realistic coming from the same direction as the musical content. I listen in 2-channel so perhaps the multi-channel format allows the audience in live recordings to sound more realitic.
