Performance:   Sonics:
This is a sonic marvel. The first time my daughter (12 years old) heard it she just sat still from beginning to end. My girlfriend got half way through, sat up and said " There's no instruments." the music is just that engaging. The surround channels get a thorough workout with voices appearing from time to time and ambiance cues, with sometimes startling effect. The songs are mostly spiritual and even though most are in a language other than English they still manage to move you. Some of you will probably remember these gentleman from Paul Simons Graceland Album...well this is what they were truly meant to do. At the right volume that over used cliche of having them right in your listening space can truly be realized. SACD seems to take the digital edge off recordings bringing back the comforting sound of analog....thank goodness.

Performance:   Sonics:
One of the most engaging recordings I own. It's a perfect usage of the surround format. I have one small complaint: they recorded the lead performer with a nearfield microphone, while the rest of the ensemble was recorded with farfield microphones. The difference in sound is enough to pull you out of the performance from time to time. As I said, it's a small issue and only worth mentioning because it's really the only problem I can find with the sonics.

The best way to travel to South Africa in a couple of seconds and feel peaceful for the rest of the day.
Sonics are tremendous, great use of multichannel.
You immediately feel inside the group !
Performance is awesome.
Strongly recommended if you like world music.
