As I read the reviews on Amazon, there is some expressed disappointment with the sound on Linn's stereo track.

I have found that it does sound better in surround, I really didn't like the stereo version, I would have only given it 3*. I am still waiting for my ideal SACD version but haven't heard the Davis/LSO.

The only SACD recordings I have are the Linn/Mackerras and the Karajan. Even as a Linn fan I find I prefer the Karajan recording.

I thought the Davis/LSO was kinda limp.

Harnoncourt. Excellent singers, too, especially Schaefer who shines like no one else in the part.

+1

I am quite fond of soprano Anna Korondi's singing on Villa-Lobos: Floresta do Amazonas - Neschling. Her only other appearance on SACD is the Requiem on Farao:

Mozart: Requiem - Enoch zu Guttenberg

How does this version stack against some of these better known recommendations?

Agreed. Just bought this recently. Disappointed. Perhaps I'll give it a few more listens and see how I feel...

Dunno but his Missa Solemnis was a dog.

Kal, at least you are consistent. The only review relevant to Farao requiem on the whole Internet was your previous thumbs down for the Missa right here.
