I guess this alternative view to mine means people should definitely sample before purchase!

Thanks for linking to an alternative viewpoint, Domimag.

John,

This must be the worst rendition of the 2nd that I've heard, all very strangely disjointed, poorly paced and in places played quite raggedly to the extent that one wondered how it had made it to disc. I must listen again to try to understand what Zacharias is aiming for but I got the distinct impression of an orchestra under-rehearsed... surely not?

The 4th 'though is very much better and attractively bright and at least holds it's own amongst modern SACD versions although not against Klemperer which remains the benchmark.

Having said that Schumann's symphonies are quite light-weight and most casual collectors may have settled for Dausguaard. For them there is no reason to worry about this one.

I guess you are Canadian but it's too much like hard work for me to accurately translate the text of the article. I'll maybe GT it later.

I quite agree about #2 - I also feel massively underwhelmed by #4 but different ears/tastes etc...

I would certainly say that Dausgaard holds "top spot" for the moment. I am awaiting Jarvi's completion of the cycle with great interest.

Hmmph - why has someone posted Lee Passerella's review for AudAud unattributed as to it's provenance? Not good form, sir...
