HMV Japan has a bunch listed. Some are dupes of ones in the first wave, but now have a higher price.

Quite a bunch in fact. You have to scroll down to see the September release date items, too.

Many of my prayers have been answered: all of Klemperer's Beethoven, all of his Wagner excerpts (3 vols.), his Mahler 2nd & 4th (what's with this wait for the 9th...!), and, of course, Michelangeli's Ravel cto.

The rest I don't really so much care about. So God exists, but she/he...

That's from EMI Japan. Universal JPN is, according to this, bringing out more Mahler: Abbado's earlier Mahler 4th with VPO & von Stade, which excites me, plus Ozawa's M1 and Karajan's M6.

I was always under the impression that these were so-so performances.

Are you having trouble sleeping?!? :)

I really don't see the value in most of the late Klemperer recordings, unless one is needing an electronic soporific... UGH...

The Mahler "Das Lied" and "Symphony No.2" are quite good, but Mozart and Mendelssohn??? UGH...

There are fans, and there are fans. I'm in the latter camp.

:-D

There are periods when I feel that all I need, or the most important thing, in life is listening to Klemperer. The LvBs are for that.

Although the 3rd is a marvel regardless (and I really adore his 4th), and one of the things that got me completely into classical from jazz to begin with.

Besides, there is a misconception that the interpreter needs to bring excitement to a piece. That's wrong-headed. It's there in the work already, or it isn't. Just play it as it's written.

So play it as written but ignore the metronome markings ;P

I think he tried... But we all slow down with age. I sure do; I'm confronting it on a daily basis already. I used to be up there with the best (in my little corner of the universe) in 100 m dash, but now I barely keep up with four-year-olds, I notice. At some point, it becomes a choice for you: either you do it quickly and cut a few too many corners, or you take a bit more time and do it right, the way it's supposed to be done.

And no one's perfect in general. (Except Arnaldo.) (And Abbado.)

I suppose the problem is that after the release of the 10 'western' sets we have no idea if anymore will be forthcoming in that series or whether we will have to be content in future with buying the japanese ones at £30 a time.

I'd hate to do that and then find more western releases at a third of their cost.

Simon Gibson we need to hear from you again?
