MTT's Mahler cycle (all) seems to have lasting quality retaining a sense of freshness and sparkle at each spin. Probably has much to do with the outstanding recording quality as the excellent performances.

Few other recent Mahler's are holding our attention in quite the same way, even those of our lovable hero Ivan Fischer.

The only MTT I've really been turned on by is M2. The last 3 minutes is the most amazing climax of M2 I've ever heard. This M2 has many fine moments.

Sometimes I come back to something after many years to find some previously hidden magic in a recording. That's why I really do try to be careful about what I get rid of.

Ditto, after years of trying I still get bored with it.
A Vivaldi overdose can also become boring.!
And then some of the English composers music is like Yorkshire pudding
all fluffy and overblown with nothing inside.
A bit like like Cappucino all froth but no substance.

I was considering getting rid of all my CC titles earlier this year. Then I upgraded my front speakers (to KEF iQ30 from iQ10) a few months ago and was glad I didn't.

Those 3 titles are now in my top 5 for sound quality. What a revelation that was!

Six composers I find boring:
Tschaikowsky
Johann Strauss
Mendelsohn
Verdi (except for the Requiem)
Jennifer Higdon
Ricky Ian Gordon

I also find Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and most musicals to be very boring. I formerly found Brahms and Schubert boring, but I discovered how engaging they really are, and am now a fan of both. I tend not to gravitate towards chamber music of the romantic era (preferring orchestral music and opera), but there is some wonderful repertoire there as well. But I try to live by Cage's advice that if I find something uninteresting, I should step back and ask myself why. Nothing, however, will ever convince me that the Tschaikowsky's First Piano Concerto is anything but over-indulgent, formless mush.

If only the editors didn't leave out the off-stage horns in the "liberation of the graves" section.

I've only heard the MTT Mahler 3, but it's probably my favorite recording of what may be my favorite piece of music. Of course, I'm partial to MTT's Mahler, for personal reasons: back when I was 11, I sang in the children's chorus of Mahler 3 under MTT. I became a musician because of this.

I'd suggest that you give this one a try if you haven't already Tchaikovsky, Medtner: First Piano Concertos - Sudbin, Neschling. Sudbin's taut, scintillating performance is the antithesis of the usual over the top, hyper-romantic, virtuoso, show(off)piece approach that we commonly get (Lang Lang mugging for the Live from Lincoln Center TV audience while underlining every phrase gets my absolute booby prize). And if you still don't like it at least you get a fine Medtner 1st in the deal.

Or the Tchaikovsky PC to end all Tchaikovsky PCs: the soon-to-be-released (on SACD) Richter/Mravinsky on Praga (PRD350069).

Terrible sound to begin with, but something after which only silence can ensue.

Will blow your roof out, and not because of some faux conception of virtuosity but by the inhuman strength and power of the performers, the orchestra included. Basically unimaginable if you have not heard it.

That from another Tchaikovsky PC hater.
