Who says my main motivation is profit? If I knew I could sell one of my discs that I don't really like to fund a purchase of something that I would, e.g., O'Jay's Ships Ahoy, I would gladly do so.

And while I appreciate dandfaz's post, AFAIK, completed listings are only available to power sellers.

If you don't want to contribute to this post, don't bother responding. If you are someone like me who is not collecting for the sake of collecting but still wants to ascertain what the re-sale market is, please feel free to contribute. I for one will not make unfounded conclusions about your motivations.

I'm no power seller, and I can most certainly search completed listings. You just have to have an ebay ID.

Cannot add much in the way of interest or value to this thread but I almost never bid on nor buy out-of-print SACDs as the titles I failed to get when in print seem to command $100 and more. These include Sarah Brightman-Eden, Talk Talk-Spirit of Eden, Texas-Careful What You Wish For and Peter Gabriel ("Car"). Had I not lost my primary income, I believe I would very well pay these prices. Bear in mind that I AM a collector, a bit of a completist, as they say, and a lover of music. While I own all the Depeche Mode SACDs, I couldn't easily be persuaded to part with them, including my least favorites Speak and Spell and Construction Time Again. While Rammiepie is correct about gold for return on investment, why, in my uneducated mind, do I "feel" as if I possess something of greater worth in an SACD compared to a typical optical disc? I mean, I'm fooling myself, right?

I recognize a lot of what you're saying.

Thankfully I got all of the Depeche Mode SACDs (I rarely run out and buy things immediately the moment they're released let alone pre-order but with these I'm glad I did. I paid 15 euro for each of the reissues and not much more for Depeche Mode: 101 and Depeche Mode: Playing the Angel).

Texas: Careful What You Wish For is a nasty one to obtain but I managed to snap up a used copy on eBay.de for 33 euro. This is by far also the best place to hunt down copies of Paul Van Dyk: Reflections. I paid 30 euro for mine. The trick: work through someone in Germany. Many sellers there will only ship domestically!

I bought my copy of Talk Talk: Spirit of Eden for 20 euro at WOM, a German retailer but Talk Talk: The Colour of Spring I've still got to get and it's going to be expensive.

Back to the original question then. Most I've ever fetched for an SACD I sold was just over $200 for a copy of Manowar: Warriors of the World United. Most I've ever paid was about 90 euro for a copy of Groove Armada: Love Box

Beautifully stated. I too love music and am also a bit of a completist myself but never spent more than $50 for an OOP SACD. I also love movies and find bargain after bargain in used Blu~rays and also continue to buy the occasional "renegade" DVD~Audio discs (King Crimson, Steve Wilson, Porcupine Tree, etc.).

IMO, the best bargain ever was the Universal Blu~Ray player which plays everything but still firmly believe that although they are versatile would rather eventually put my hard earned cash into "dedicated" players (as in state of the art RBCD, DVD~A and SACD varieties.)

What some of these OOP SACDs are commanding on E~Bay and if you have them in your collection it may be wise to take out a rider on your current insurance policy as they might eventually be worth more than that antique piece of jewelry left to you by your great Aunt Emma.

With ownership comes responsibility!

If you all really want to get "rich" the money, I assure you, is not in SACDs but in GOLD!

Maybe not: Gold is down about 20% this month ... but the price of OOP SACDs continues to rise.

Well, at least some of them are gold~tinted but the smart money is investing in 24k gold Audio Fidelity RBCDs currently being remastered by Steve Hoffman.

See for instance this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150665025741 (Zeus, feel free to remove this post if you consider it undesirable; at the current Amazon prices of 900 Euro and over I reckon it's unlikely though they'll get purchased that way)
