The Alice SACD is just unlistenable - It is really sad when the standard RBCD is so much better...I still can't believe they could approve such a mess to ever be released...

Astronaut was a sell~out or perhaps a contractual obligation

Hardly. Contrary, in fact. It's the bands first album under a new contract, the first one after they reunited to the original 5-man line-up. It's also their return to mainstream pop after years of adventures into more experimental, sometimes grungy rock and near obscurity. And here's an expert speaking... where did you think my moniker hails from?

Enough DD and AiC bashing for now. Wasn't Meat Loaf: Bat Out Of Hell supposed to be the worst-sounding (rock) multichannel SACD?

Are you saying, gulp, that you were one of the original Taylors in Duran, Duran? If so, Roger, John or Andy.

Well, if so, I WAS a huge fan and sorry if I bashed Astronaut but (and you're not going to like this coming from me) fully treated (polished/green ring around the edges and ultra~Vivid) it is hardly one of the worst sounding SACDs but does not equal the Duran Duran of yore.

And I don't have the mch version of Bat Out Of Hell but do have the stereo version and it's so, so (needs to be, er, TREATED).

But some postings ago, I assumed your moniker the Seventh Taylor alluded to the fact that you were the runt of the litter...........are you the youngest or are there more Taylors?

7T, any chance we will see Duran Duran's extraordinary Capitol Output in 5.1 SACD in the near future?

Nah, just a long-time fan/collector. It's a pun on The Seventh Stranger but as that's not a single I doubt you're familar with the title.

I doubt it. They've just issued quite nicely done reissues of the first four studio albums plus Arcadia's (consisting of the album, lost of bonus materials such as B-sides, demos, live versions, etc. plus a DVD-Video) but no 5.1 remixes and sadly quite poor mastering at that (compressed with some mistakes here and there too).

You really had me going for a while.

BTW, Have you ever heard of Emotiva components. Saw a full page ad in this month's stereophile advertising their tank~like 5.1 channel 1000 watt amp for $899. They also make a beautiful matching pre~amp.

Saw you were in the market for a new pre~amp so check into their website.

And no, I'm not familiar with the Seventh Stranger. A quick check on Amazon: it was on Seven and the Ragged Tiger album. Thanks for the tip on the Duran Duran remasters. They would be immersive mch Sacds, IMO.

They would be, especially the Arcadia side project album, "So Red The Rose", often referred to as the best album Duran Duran never made.

Not at all familiar with that album.

Well, at least today The DVD~A registry website listed Aqualung ( mixed by Steve Wilson) for a 5.1 release sometime this year and Thick As A Brick for next year (they have it tentatively listed as a BD release).

Since Capitol Records is big on Anniversary reissues, perhaps Duran Duran will be on their upcoming agenda for 5.1 releases since they sold a ton of discs back in the day........with "So Red The Rose" as a bonus......

BTW, have you ever heard a bootleg of that album?

Jethtro Tull is coming to DVD-A?

I'd love it but I suspect the current reissues are going to be the definitive ones.

Of So Red The Rose? I have not, and I'm not aware of any.

Steve Wilson 5.1 remasters usually end up as DVD~As (Porcupine Tree, his solo projects such as Insurgentes, and the King Crimson remasters) but I am thinking that like Wish You Were Here, Capitol Records will release it in Blu~Ray 5.1 and perhaps (don't want to start a rumor) leave the SACD 5.1 reissue to Analogue Productions.

Steve Wilson did infer that he IS working on Aqualung, so that isn't a rumor....but the final format in which it is released is pure speculation (The DVD~A registry does list is as a Blu~ray).

The DVD~A registry also has Stephen Stills first solo album after CS&N listed as a DVD~A, released by Rhino Records and after checking both Amazon US and UK, there has been NO release date mentioned.

I do have that album on a DTS RBCD and it sounds pretty amazing for an older remastering and IMO, would greatly benefit from a 96/24 DVD~A upgrade.

So, 7T, as far as you know, So Red The Rose doesn't exist in any format except the unreleased master tapes? What a shame! I'm surprised it didn't crop up on the Duran remasters which consist of 2RBCDs and 1 DVD.

Oh, well, something to look forward to unless the masters were lost or destroyed.

Hello,
i have both titles, Alice In Chains "Greatest Hits" and Duran Duran's "Astronaut".
I do find them both bad examples of SACD's... Especially Duran Duran's!
On my stereo equipment they do not sound even acceptable, and it was a bad surprise for me.
I do not recommend these two titles to anyone.

Best regards,
hr_muadib.
