Synonymous with "I like it because I like it." Wow, deep.

Yes, take for example Telarc and BIS. One of them went belly-up, while the other one is still the second largest SACD publisher in the number of new issues...

The listeners KNOW.

Look, the sound quality issues I've been talking about can be heard on a boom box - they are totally unrelated to playback equipment. We're talking about the recorded sound itself - not what is done with the sound when it's played back.

Then that explains it perfectly. The Pentatone/Polyhymnia engineers are using actual audio equipment that play sacd's. Maybe you can personally email them, call them, or otherwise notify them that all they really need is a boom box!

Hi,

I'd like to ask Pentaman if there exist quad recordings of any of the Brahms Quintets by Members of the Berlin Philharmonic Octet plus guest Werner Haas in the case of the piano quintet.

They've been my favourite recordings of these pieces for a number of years and appeared on a Philips Duo which the Penguin Guide called one of the finest bargains of that series.

The string quintets were recorded in Dec 1970, which would probably make it unlikely they were recorded in quad, but the clarinet and piano quintets were made in April 72 and July 73 respectively.

It would be truly wonderful to hear these issued as RQRs -- any chance of that happening?

Cheers.

Please tell me which boom box can show the differences between converters.

I think you have lost all credibility with your statement.

The only sonic problem I had with recent Pentatone recordings is the constant background noise (a sort of thumping, as from a heating) on the Szymanovsky/Dvorak violin concerto disc. I listen with headphones a lot, where this is clearly noticeable and slightly distracting. No DSD converter upgrade could have fixed that.

Telarc is not belly-up, I just got Telarc's Newsletter and there are six new Telarc releases this month all on CD only.  All excellent titles, likely recorded pure DSD in stereo and multichannel.

If Concord Music Group was really forcing Telarc out of high resolution why are they paying for multichannel mixes? Perhaps something HUSH, HUSH is going on? New SACD format? BluRay? Multichannel DSD downloads?

Bis at 143 titles is gaining on Telarc's 172 titles and could overtake them by the end of the year, if Telarc doesn't start releasing SACDs again soon.

You are able to vote with your pocketbook for BIS, however I am not able to vote for Telarc as Concord is currently withholding new SACD releases.

What is this stuff about Telarc and Bis doing in the Pentatone thread?

Ask Julle Pänkäläinen he brought it up, I just replied that Telarc was not dead yet.

Whatever.

The point is a pretty simple one. It's the signature of the recorded sound itself. Now of course the difference would be less pronounced on a boom box than a full high quality system, but the difference would still be audible - that was the point.
