Sorry for the concern I caused you. I thought they earned permission from the label. I remember NPR once offered streaming service of Joyce DiDonato's 'Diva, Divo' album in full for a limited time. and WGBH's "Keith's Classical Corner" and "The Bach Hour" program also stream their past episodes in which you can listen to recent classical tracks.
Dank U zeer hartelijk.
No, they definitely haven't asked BIS for permission. I need to think about this. Maybe it isn't a bad idea - it depends upon the circumstances, but that a State-owned radio station has no clue about the copyright laws I find truly amazing. They cannot copy a recording to anything without asking permission first. If even they don't know, or care, how can we complain about filesharing?
And there are 2 more BIS new recordings up right now in the same manner. Hmmm.
Anyway, you can listen to the whole disc(s) on www.eclassical.com, even though in consecutive 30-second instalments. That is permitted, and therefore legal.

I received this disc a few days ago. I had ordered it primarily for the Rachmaninov Sonata, which I love, but also to become acquainted with the Shostakovitch, which I had never heard.
The recording and performances are beautiful, but there is a problem that potential buyers should be aware of. There are extraneous noises throughout - most likely heavy breath sounds from the cellist. These are not, thankfully, frequent or obvious enough to be distracting to me during the Rachmaninov, but are quite annoying during the Shostakovich.
I am not usually bothered by a few coughs, creaking chairs etc during live performance recordings. As for applause - I say, "bring it on." But this was sufficiently intrusive during the Shostakovich to bother me. Nevertheless, I greatly enjoy the disc during the music that is of most interest to me, and I will play it often. I certainly am not sorry that I made the purchase.
So - just be aware and check it out on-line somehow if this is important to you.

Well, that was streaming, not downloading, but anyway...
The SACD is out and has been for almost a month. BIS-SACD-1858.
Best - Robert
Any idea when it will be available in the US?

I bought it from Arkiv. It arrived with the new Stravinsky - this recording is simply superlative in every way.

Interesting review krisjan - my copy is on its way - and I look forward to comparing notes about the effect of the hall (was my "local" growing up), as I usually find it to be a beautiful acoustic and neutral. Musically, I hope you were in a bit of a funk :)

Polly - I listened to this one about 4 or 5 times over the past several weeks and came to the conclusions I reached in the review. I will be interested in your take.

If you are not overly impressed with this Rachmaniniv, who in your opinion offers the most satisfactory performance on SACD?
