How about we trace him by his IP and then we go around and steal his music collection?

How do we know if he's a guy, or something from a Peter Jackson movie? If he's Austrian, Mozart conked out after 626 Kochel numbers.
Forget the discs, look at his listed hifi. The Linn unidisk 1.1 and the TACT room correction system are very tempting. Don't understand how Mr Tiefenbrun can justify a 6500 sterling price for the Linn when according to the British hifi press, the Mark1 version of the current Townshend audio revamp of the Pioneer chassis gave better sound in SACD and CD, at less than 40% of the price.
A review of the TACT if der/die/das de Selby is reading this, please.

Good new sound.

Ok - I am the first who gave DeSelby a 'useful rating' (I like to be a contrarian :-) But seriously, I think these 'stereo sonics' cameo's are useful. DeSelby is consistent, has a decent system, and by the sheer volume of the discs listened to I would like to think the experience counts. Let's take a positve attitude towards this and assume that this person is not a complete moron. I would like to defend these posts for what they are: a brief opinion from another audiophile on the sound of a disc. Not a review as such. But useful nonetheless.

Jw - slighty peeved that he has been surpassed by a one-liner as the most proliferate reviewer on this site :-)

Zeus, how about introducing a page for users who want to advertise their collections, so they can feed their shopping vanities without clogging the space intended for something much more useful?

I actually think this is a great idea (although I don't know if it was ment to be a joke). I would like to see a function so that I could list my Sacd's, and if I'm intrestsed in a title and there's no review of it, I can send a message to someone that owns this title and ask him/her to say I few words about it before I buy it. This might also make it more easy to find people with the same taste in music. And maybe there could be a function that makes it possible to make a short note about the titles so guys like DeSelby didn't have to right a review if they don't have more than 4 words to say about a title. Of course that does not guarantee that he don't writes his reviews anyway ;-)

One idea I had, but haven't yet implemented, is to look for overlaps in recommended title lists and generate a personalized list based on your and others' preferences. The thinking is pretty simple: if you liked much the same titles as someone else then their other recommendations are probably ones you'd like as well. For this to work, I need to know your preferences for ranking so start clicking on those "Would you recommend it: Yes/No" buttons now!

That is also an intresting idea, probably easier to implement. I am fully aware that my first suggestion would be difficult (and expensive?) to implement.

As I am interested in some of the discs he just reviewed if the sound ratings he is giving are accurate (even though a few words) it would help.

The question I have is: do you think he has actually heard all these SACDs? I suppose it's possible.....Any thoughts?

I have found De Selby's simple reviews useful.

To decide whether to buy the disk, I listen to the audio samplers on the sites that sell the disk, to get an idea if I like the content. But that doesn't tell me anything about the audio quality, it's probably based on the CD layer and it's highly compressed. So De Selby's quality comments help to make a choice once I like the content, because great content represented through bad audio quality is not worth the purchase.

Reviews which are rather opinions about whether the artist(s) has(ve) something interesting to offer, can only be shared with someone who has the same tastes and preferences, so these are not always appropriate for everyone.

Finally, if someone else has taken the time to write a better review, I will pay special attention to that as well. If possible, please rate the surround sound quality as well, which very few people actually do (or even care about). That is what I listen to.

So please, don't complain or delete his posts, just add your own so we can all be more informed buyers.

I agree with Christophe on a certain level. While I certainly have complained about De Selby's reviews, I'd never advocate the removal of his reviews, because, it's a public forum and people should be able to review stuff however they want to, I guess (within the guidelines). I will certainly add my reviews and have done so, but actually, I have found it difficult to supplement any of De Selby's reviews with my own because he doesn't review albums I'd ever buy.

I think my main frustration with De Selby is that there is this huge thread about him, and yet he has not joined into the thread to at least respond to some of the negative feedback that his reviews have been getting. Obviously, he doesn't have to, but it would have been nice. That he has gained some defenders is interesting, but it's a little fishy that he hasn't decided to add his own voice to the discussion.

While still I find his reviews unfocused, cryptic, and far too brief, I'm pleased to find that some people find his reviews of value. And perhaps, over time, I may find this same appreciation for his writing.
