  SACD News Story:

Guero Album in CD, LP and CD + DVD-A
Initially, we were told that Guero would be issued in the U.S. market in several formats including CD, Vinyl LP, SACD Surround Sound and DualDisc Surround Sound. This week Universal Music changed direction on the Guero album by dropping their plans for an SACD Surround Sound edition and by changing the DualDisc release to a CD + DVD-A release, which some music industry professionals now call a "Double Disc".

I expressed interest in an sa-cd release of Guero through the contact page at http://www.beck.com. (envelope icon). On the bottom left hand side of the contact page is an area for comments that are treated separately from fan mail. Hopefully comments there are read and taken seriously.

I went to Geffen records and sent an email there.

Hope that this doesn't signal a beginning of new trend for major record companies moving away from sacd to dvd-a through the double-disc releases. Don't take me wrong here. I absolutely have nothing against dvd-a, it's just that I invested money into "sacd only" equipment and discs, under the impression and conviction that sacd is better sounding hi-res format

I went SACD only too (last month). I haven't heard DVD-audio, but I had been watching the releases on both formats for 2-3 years. The number of SACDs I would buy outnumbered the number of DVD-A by about 4:1 or 5:1. And some of the ones originally on DVD-A later came out on SACD. Also, a site showing new DVD-A hasn't been updated since 2003, so I figured the DVD-A format was dying. So I got SACD/CD only player for the reasons above, plus this is for music only, no TV, so I didn't see any point in DVD for my music room.

Any news with this one?
I already purchased the DVDA version of it...
By the way, Beck`s Sea Change SACD is long out of print, so I got the DVDA version of that one as well...
I guess Beck got to the conclusion that there is no future for SACDs :(
Same thing goes for Bjork- the first 5.1 releases were SACDs, and now all surround mixes are DVD DTS :/ and not even DVDA...
I guess the reason for this is accessibility- everyone has a DVD surround setup, less have DVDA, and now even lesser have SACD...
With DVD DTS / DVDA / CDDA dualdiscs, you can reach everyone.
As these artists are at the knife-edge of todays technologies, I have a fear the whole industry is going in the same direction...
