I have found this 11 disc set at my local store. Very lively interpretations on period instruments captured in excellent sound quality but : RBCD !
Was this added here by mistake or is there an SA-CD version in adition to the RBCD ?
PS: just checked Brilliant's homepage its listed there as CD-set only, where's the above picture from showing a SA-CD box ?

This is the set you have? This came out about a year and a half ago. The new SA-CD set will be out in a few weeks, according to jpc. I'd be very interested on your comments on the overall performance. It sure seems like a bargain.

This is the set, did'nt buy it just listened at the store because i wanted to find out first wether there is an SA-CD version or not.
I listened samples from early symphonys and from the well known late ones and found the interpretations very good on first hearing. I was quite surprised since this orchestra was completely unknown to me. It is obviously quite new and was asembled from top players of known orchestras. Also the sound was good, natural balances, spaciousness and, very critical with period instruments, accurate timbre.(as judged on head phones)
The price was very low indeed, the only pay off being limited liner notes and simple packing of the seperate CDs in cardboard sleeves (danger of scratching the discs).
Should this really come out on SA-CD and at similar price it would be a great bargain.

i got the early symphonies on 6 cds some time ago, even before they were re-issued with the later symphonies in the 11 disc box illustrated on this page. They are lively and enjoyable accounts and sound good on RB stereo. The real test, of course, is symphonies 25 onwards, which require a different level of both engagement and skill than the early works. I look forward to hearing ter Linden's performances of those later, great symphonies, as the discs I already have are certainly more than just acceptable and are certainly superior to the somewhat "samey" Marriner performances on SACD.

According to jpc's March catalogue, this is the first installment in a complete Mozart SACD edition (already available on RBCD), to be completed sometime in 2006. The news on the budget SACD front keeps getting better.

The set to beat, I imagine, will be the Pinnock/English Concert one, which Archiv released as budget set a couple years ago. Jaap ter Linden is a great player (he's performing with John Holloway and Lars Ulrik Mortensen for my Early Music Society this April), but I've no idea what sort of conductor he is. Pinnock directs from the harpsichord, of course.

Anyone else pick up HMV's special packaging of the Pinnock set for $25 3 years ago? Now THAT was a bargain. I still feel like a fool for not having bought a dozen of them and ebaying them when the set went OOP a few months later.

Another very fine complete set is with Mackerras on Telarc. On modern instruments, but HIP, small orchestra, even with a harpsichord.

I sold several at double their price on Audiogon, actually.

Mackerras is good. I like his recent Mozart Requiem on Linn SA-CD. His quasi-HIP approach to Brahms (also on Telarc) seems successful, although I haven't listened to much other Brahms to compare it to.

Can someone who has the SACD version of this set please comment on the sound quality? My SACD collection is lacking in Mozart and this seems like a very attractive way to improve it. I know the performances are highly regarded and the RB sound is supposed to be pretty good. If the SACD version is worthwhile sound wise, I'd very much like to pick it up.
