The mp3 snippets sound promising..

I'm looking forward to hearing the recording in glorious DSD sound.

He played with the Bournemouth Orchestra a few weeks ago. Can be very heavy handed and lacking subtlety of interpretation. With Gergiev's firebrand approach as well could go either way, there may be another side to Sergei that we have not encountered before.

well, I wouldn't say the playing was heavy handed on the provided snippets, it will be interesting to compare the SACD with the classic Janis, Dorati disc on MLP...

We have quite a long wait for this to be released, so frustrating...

Stephen Hough's version of the 3rd on SACD is well worth a spin as well if you have not heard it yet. I like it a lot with terrific support from Litton and the Dallas Symphony.

I hate the Rachmaninov piano concertos. Wonder why since I love his symphonies and other pieces. Another insightful posting from me!

That made me chuckle; the use of self-depricating humor on this site is refreshing - there are a few posters here who take themselves MUCH too seriously. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of the piano concertos either; can't really say why - overexposure I think, or maybe not enough percussion :-) But what the hell do I know?

Yeeees, the lack of percussion. And they last longer than 7 minutes. I'm lost and out to sea.

Who is Sergei?

Hey, I only listen to the 18th variation in the Rhapsody. That only lasts 1 minute or so...I beat you and my insight is even more insightful.
