I am slightly intrigued by the label "DSD recording" here in the database, and I was wondering what the basis was for same?

The booklet says: "This recording utilizes Sony's DSD system and 24-bit technology".

If it uses 24-bit technology, then it is presumably not a DSD recording.

It could be that the information in the booklet concerns the CD release. Sony has reused the CD booklet for many early SACD releases, while the back cover indicates SACD-specific information.

With CDs made from DSD recordings or DSD archives of analogue material, the DSD signal is converted to 24bit PCM and then to 16bit.

Some CD reissues mention "DSD mastering" and others "24bit mastering", when in fact the same process was used, as Sony masters the CD from DSD archives of the analogue tapes.

I think you have hit the nail on the head.

On the rear cover, in very small font, it says: "Recorded, mixed and mastered using Sony's DSD technology."

The booklet refers to the 24 bit technology, as you suggest above.

Thanks!

Italian concerto was recorded in June sessions in 2003, rest were in April. Perhaps some of those sessions were in 24bit. I can see one of those "listen and tell which one" challenge emerging.
