I just found the first evidence of a SACD from ECM. This is Stephen Hartke's "Tituli" and "Cathedral in the Thrashing Rain" performed by The Hilliard Ensemble and Donald Crockett. Recorded, I gather, in February this year. I'm not familiar with his work but it looks interesting. I'm a BIG fan of ECM's New Series. Amazon Germany says June 1, 2004(!) but I found somewhere else that lists a considerably more respectable September 16.

Where did you find this? I have a large selection of ECM work. They have, mostly, great acoustics. I would like to see if they take full advantage of SACD's sonic ability. I bet they will.

I found this on Amazon Germany:

A lot of new SACDs show up here first, especially European titles. And this site shows September availability:

ECM announced their intentions to issue SACDs over a year ago and I've been hanging out for these ever since. ECM is a top label with very high production standards. I've never found their titles less than interesting. Anyway, I'll definitely be buying this ... I give all composers I haven't heard at least one try!

I'm especially fond of ECM's back catalogue of Pat Metheny titles. Have there been any rumours about ECM re-issuing these titles on SACD or is ECM going to concentrate on new releases?

Hi all I'm a big fan of SACD and ECM.
It is interesting that the hybrid album: "Michelle Makarski & Hilliard Ensemble - Tituli: Cathedral In The Thrashing Sun" will debut in the US before Europe, as I can not find a release date for Europe! It has always been the other way round!
Also High Fidelty Review reports that Jan Garbarek's Visible World will be the debut SACd in Europe.
I hope the good folk at ECM dust off the original masters and release previous fine albums.
unfortunately, here in Australia, Sonart will no longer distribute ECM so it appears that I will have to import future titles from either Germany or the US.

Hopefully, future ECM releases don't suffer the same problems that some contributors have found with DGG titles.
Although some ECM recordings have been made at the same studios [Avatar] in NYC where some DSD -recorded albums have been recorded- the tapes may be DSD???

Good news for ECM fans
ECM plans to release six titles this year [hopefully#]
the two already mention
and
*Tabula Rasa by Arvo Pärt
*Te Deum by Arvo Pärt
*Officium by Jan Garbarek / The Hilliard Ensemble
*Ulysses' Gaze by Eleni Karaindrou
*The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett

#some of these titles may not appear until next year
I gather all titles will be released eventually in both the US and Europe

Also, ECM will release DSD-recorded titles next year!

Do you have an online source for this information? Thanks.

Hi Stephen [zeus]
I sent an email to ECM in Munchen, in regards to the European release date of "Stephen Hartke's Tituli and Cathedral in the Thrashing Rain"
and future title release dates
and their reply was what I have posted.
I must admit Im more into the jazz genre of the label
but was most interested in the actual first SACD release!
It appears they will follow Universal's lead in Europe and release only hybrid discs! Just have to wait and see I suppose
ciao
