Does anybody know the recording format used for MDG recordings? There are references to DVD-Audio on their website and plenty of waffle about true sound but nothing on DSD. Does this mean that all their SACD's were recorded in hi-rez 96kHz PCM before conversion to DSD. There is absolutely no reference to DSD anywhere on the website or on this disc which I have just bought

Its a digital 2plus2plus2 issue.Good performance and if you think pcm isnt good enough for you then forget it.They also issued a few DVDAs as well as sacds.

I have never understood this 2+2+2 thing. The booklet says it's compatible with normal 5.1 system, but how an earth this could be possible as in 5.1-system the height-channels are directed to center and lfe-channels? I usually shut of my center channel amp while listening to this recording (I don't have sub, nor use any sort of bass-management). So effectively I listen a 2+2 version of 2+2+2 material.

MDG seems to be quite active according to Gramophone New Releases listings each month so I wonder why they have not moved to DSD recording now that DVD-Audio has been laid to rest? Can't be that expensive surely?

MDG Any response?

I have this record, and would be curious if someone in the forum has heard it played on a 2+2+2 set-up, and could comment on its performance. On my 5.1 it doesn't come across that well: clearly pcm, but also the mid-range has a rather mediocre performance and the piano looses clarity, particularly in 1st concerto's 1st movement.
Maybe "you see the light" in a 2+2+2 setup when you reproduce the mics inputs as they are spacially placed in the recording session. Anyone knows?

I play it on my 4.1 system because I haven't any subwoofer (lack of space/useless since I've got fantastic JBL 4425 Studio Monitors with big 12" woofers). First I found this recording had too much reverbation. Then after tuning the speakers distance (delay) on my amplifier (Denon AVC-A11XV) I can say that it sounds much better. But the first Mendelssohn recording is not as good as the second. The Mozart piano concertos on SACD by MDG are much better recorded.
