Thanks terence. Unlike you I have not heard Levine. Please give us your thoughts on both when you get the Haitink. My benchmarks were Munch and Monteux.

A propos of nothing, I note Boulez's DG recording was made in Jesus-Christus-Kirche Berlin.

In response to the review posted yesterday, I have to say that I have indeed listened to this in surround and the imaging is fine. So there are copies in existence that have the correct channel assignments (as the other reviewers should be evidence of). However, in the BSO/Levine thread for Daphnis, Kal Rubinson mentions that he also got a copy of the CSO/Haitink with a huge imaging problem, so it appears there are some of those copies in circulation. Hopefully CSO Resound actually looks into this (or already has) and takes steps to replace those bad copies if they haven't already.

Check the end of my review for the hassle involved in getting the defective disc exchanged. I tried calling the person IN CHARGE of CSO Resound and he was NOT responsive. So, the best solution is to BUY the Living Stereo RCA. This performance is NOT worth it, anyway...

My copy sounded terrible, as well. Stick with the levine/BSO. A great record.

No, stick with Monteux and Munch.

How are the tempos in the Danse Finale in the BSO/Levine??? The thing that bothers me the most about Haitink is that the tempos are just shy of the music cooking and there is NO passion, which I have said before. The Danse Guerriere is also too tame... That music should be ferocious. I am only sorry that Georg Solti never recorded this piece with CSO. That would have been something!!!
