With DIVERTIMENTI we continue where we left MOZART. We’re in the same venue, with the same orchestra, and basically the same microphone technique is applied. We have further refined the placement of our microphones and believed that we have managed to reveal even finer details of the musical structure, without losing the force of the full ensemble and the orchestral timbre. The repertoire is chosen from the ensembles own favorites. One major difference from MOZART is the type of microphones used; for DIVERTIMENTI we use five identical and matched microphones, still omnidirectional but with a larger membrane giving slight directional focus. Session photos showing the stage layout of the orchestra and microphone perspective: http://www.lindberg.no/english/collection/012.htm

Why do we publish on both Hybrid SACD and Blu-ray in the same box? Because we find this to be our best sounding recording up to now, and we will take the opportunity to present the most extreme audiophile package we can imagine :-) This album is also available as HiRes audio download in FLAC 24/96 stereo, FLAC 24/96 multi 5.1 and DSD64 stereo! http://www.2l.musiconline.no/shop/displayMerchandise.asp?id=359&aid=12858

For a limited time and volume this two-disc box will be offered as an introduction of Blu-ray at the price of one ordinary CD. Normal price will later be 1,5x that of one Hybrid SACD.

All resolutions and encodings presented on these two discs are derived from the same original DXD source files, and should make an interesting case for DIRECT evaluation of audio formats, encodings and resolutions.

Hybrid SACD:
- Stereo DSD
- MCH 5.1 DSD
- Stereo 16/44.1

Blu-Ray (dual layer):
- Stereo Linear PCM 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 Linear PCM 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 Dolby True HD 24 BIT / 192 kHz
- MCH 5.1 DD 48kHz

Dear Lindberg,

I was googling to your website and I came at this page

http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html

I'am just wondering.
How do I play the tracks that are encoded in
5,1 WAV 24BIT/352.8kHz
stereo WAV 24BIT/352.8kHz
Surround and stereo DSD 64
Surround 5.1 WAV 24BIT/48kHz
Surround 5.1 FLAC 24BIT/96kHz

I don't know of any network player (e.g. LINN Akurate DS) that can decode these. Does it have to be done with a PC?

Does anyone have more info?

Why no Flac or WAV at 192/24?

Thanks.

24/352.8kHz is DXD and can only be played back with an editor like Adobe Audition or some more sophisticated profesional editing software. Needles to say that very very good soundcard is imperative.

Also DSD64 can only be played with VAIO laptops equiped with Sound Reality and DSD player/Sonic Stage Mastering Studio. There is a plugin for WMP11 from Sony that can turn any computer in DSD player, but you need a good soundcard or else stuff will be downsampled to 44.1kHz. Note that DSD64 is a mastering Direct Stream Digital Interchange File Format and goes by the extension .dff. If it were Sony's DSF (.dsf) it could be played back on PS3 as a DSD-Disc.

As for Wav and Flac you can author Blu-ray, DVD-Audio and for 2 channels even DVD-Video disc.

For those interested in purchasing the Trondheim Solistene "Divertimenti" in Blu-Ray/Sacd, music direct offers the disc for $39.99. I believe the US release date is July 22.

Hey HV,

If you want to author DVD-Audio disc I suggest you take a look at http://dvd-audio.sf.net or http://www.cirlinca.com/products.htm. The first tools are free and lacking some features, while the second one is commercial. It is also limited in some regards but features all that you need and is easy enough for begginers. There are also more professional tools available, but they tend cost a rather large amounts of money.

For DVD-Video with 24/96 PCM and bitmaps I use a free tool called LPLEX http://audioplex.sourceforge.net/. For fancy menues and other goodies you need a full authoring package. I would not know which one to choose, but something along the lines of Nero or Roxio suites could do the job just right.

For Blu-Ray I would also not know what tool to suggest, but Sony Vegas IMHO should do the job. I am waiting for my Vaio FZ31S to arrive. Bought it exclusively for DSD HW support and SonicStage Mastring Studio/DSD Player SW. I surely hope that some authoring software is also included, as it features Blu-ray writer.

Why did this title go from $19.99 to $39.00 and it still isn't available in the U.S.??

Our initial announcement stated: ”For a limited time and volume this two-disc box will be offered as an introduction of Blu-ray at the price of one ordinary CD. Normal price will later be 1,5x that of one Hybrid SACD.”

The first batch of 3.000 units are now sold. Unfortunately our US distributor is three months behind Europe. Release in the US is scheduled for August. The final retail price is controlled by the individual importers, but standard US price should be in the area of 25 $ for the two-disc-box.

OK, let me see if I understand your answer. You issued a limited number of copies at a reduced price, but not to the U.S. Correct? The price after the initial run was distributed should be around $25. Correct? I can only find two U.S. retailers for your disc at this time, Elusive Disc and Acoustic Sounds and both have the disc as a pre-order for $39.99. The blu-ray is Ok, but I'm more than happy with your multi-channel SACDs. Perhaps if you issue this one as a SACD only I may get re-interested.

I emailed 2L a few weeks ago asking them if a SACD only release was a possibility they replied indicating they had no plans to do this. I have not bought the release yet if it was SACD only would more than likely purchase.
