Hello, you guys!

I'm a newcomer - just discovered this site/forum and first impression is outstanding!

I have a dilemma: it's pure CD, not SACD, buy hopefully I could have some pertinent opinions!

I already own a McIntosh MCD205 - which is a stellar performer in my system.

Would it worth to buy the MCD1000/MDA1000 combo - I mean, would the price/quality ratio be in its favor?

I'm from Romania and I can get the up mentioned devices from my dealer at a
rate of 14,000 Euro (both!) which is less than in other European countries.
A small digression - the US citizens are blissed with unbelievable low prices,
not only for US made high-end equipment but also for European cars!

I didn't have the chance to actually listen to the '1000 combination, I only had a few brochures/materials read on this topic.

Is it anyone who has actually listened to these?

All in all, would it be a higher sound quality and worthy of the investment?
The fact is that the DAC of the MCD 205 performs oversampling, opposite to the upsampling or the 8 DACs of the 1000 system - and 24 bytes over 16 means more dither, i.e. more noise...Anyway, this is a technical approach.
I look forward to receiving your advice!

One last thing - I would like to mention my configuration, so you might know if it will make a difference in this lay-out:
- 2 x MC 1201 monoblock amplifiers; MC2200 valve pre-amp; 2 x XRT 30 loudspeakers, Oelbach 5* cables.

Thank you!

Why on Earth would you want to spend 14K euro for something that only reads CDs? For that kind of money buy yourself a nice SACD-based multichannel system and forget about old technologies like CD and stereo, just let them rest in peace.

Adrian is right. You could spend half the amount on a nice SACD system that will outperform any CDs and you'll have enough left over for a nice starter collection of a few hundred discs!

Well, it is normal that we share opinions, after all this is a site for SACD enthusiasts ... :)

I don't think that the people usually reading this forum would be ready to spend any amount of money on a high end player which does not read SACDs (at least in stereo)... I know I definitely wouldn't do that.

Dear djmartin,

You will hear the same opinion from everyone here: " Why on Earth would you want to spend 14K euro for something that only reads CDs?". We are not being deliberately rude to your polite question. Please forgive our unsympathetic attitude and I will try to explain why we doubt your sanity:

I have a very nice disc-player (no it didn't cost 14K but it IS very nice). It plays CDs and SACDs. When I play a well-recorded CD, the CD sounds better than on any other machine I have heard. So: it is an expensive CD player which sounds good. Am I impressed?

NO! When I play a well-recorded SACD on my not-very-expensive SONY universal player, the SACD sounds many many times more beautiful than any CD. Then, when I play the SACD on my expensive player, it is just a little bit more beautiful.

The BIG difference is in the technology, not in the cost of the player. Don't take our word for it: go hear superaudio for yourself. I'm sure you can find a way to spend your 14K... on superaudio.
