Discussion: Rimsky-Korsakov: Piano Duos - Pizarro, Panomariovaite

I have just reviewed this disc for another site and have to agree with Polly Nomial's rather lukewarm response. Part of the problem is Rimsky's lacklustre arrangements but I was also surprised at how uninspiring the recording is. That said the treble comes across as clear and extended without being brittle, which isn't always the case with piano recordings. Also, I felt the Capriccio Espagnol was the most successful item on the disc, with much more vigour and rhythmic vitality. A pity the music only really comes alive in the last 15 minutes. Still, Linn need to be commended for recording this niche repertoire and keeping faith with SACD.

Ta! May we know the name of the "other site"?

You may indeed, it's

http://www.musicweb-international.com/

The review was only submitted today so it should appear within two weeks or so. I am flying the flag for SACD over there :)

BTW I recognise your moniker and think we may have exchanged posts on the BBC Radio 3 MB.

Regards.
