Has anyone both versions of this who could comment on the sound?
Is there any difference such as for the two Ella & Louis releases?

The 1999 version I have (with the same Catalog number CS 64935) is stereo -only.
The Japanese stereo-only equivalent is SRGS-4501
I gather the 'Multi-channel'/Stereo version was first released in 2001.
Confusing, I don't know why they would use the same catalog number.
Is the Multi-Channel layer 3 channel or 6 channel?

Kind of Blue IMO probably the most overated disc

So, in your opinion, Gerald, it kind of blew! And what is your esteemed opinion of Sketches of Pain?

Ralph while I like the sound of the Kind of Blue SACD, the SACD of Sketches of Spain is not so good yet the 200 Gram Classic Records version is fantastic. Could something have happened in the remastering?

I have both the Japanese and America SACDs of Sketches of Spain and of course, Teresa, I extensively treated the Japanese disc and dampered it and it sounds like a whole new "ball of wax."

I can no longer listen to an "untreated" disc and except for a few dualdiscs which don't like the damper (because of their added thickness), I have been rewarded with 45 rpm vinyl sound (from a first class turntable, etc). from my SACDs and DVD~As.

IMO, Lloyd Walker's newest, VERY much improved batch of Ultra~Vivid which treats over 500 discs, is a revelation and unfortunately I had to go back and rinse the old polish off my discs and reapply his latest "sonic miracle."

When I hear posters on this site complain about the sonic quality of various recordings, I can't share their "pain" as I consider all my "babies" SuperDiscs.

IMO, those 1s and 0s NEVER had it so good!

FYI, the October 2007 Japanese SACD is currently available from CD Japan for $32.00 (US) and IMO betters the American pressing by a significant margin.

Agreed!
The 10 October 2007 sacd's were all made from new remasters, and are much nicer than earlier editions from US, Japan, Europe.

It appears that the later Japanese version SICP-10083 contains a new 6 channel mix.
I assume the earlier versions have a 3 channel mix. Or are they six channel (5.1 surround) as well??

The US 1999 stereo version, which I have , appears to come from the 1997 bonus track (an alternate version of 'Flamenco Sketches') master.

Considering this was one of the first SACDs to be released, and mastering techniques have certainly improved, it would be interesting to compare both.
