Hi,

after all your valuable inputs the winner will be a Marantz 8005 or 7003 (same DAC like the 8005 but without the USB interface) or a Yamaha CD-S1000 if I still can get one.

I'd still be intrigued by people's experiences with the Yamaha CD-S2100 if anyone has had access to it. Looks like a great piece of technology and certainly leaves me thinking.

To me it seems there is something a bit like a "Marantz house sound" which I am not so fond of (it's a bit soft and "euphonic" at the expense of neutrality, clarity/transparency, and detail). I might be outdated on that one by now, though.

Cheers,

PT

I share your view on Marantz "house sound". Exactly as you said it.

I bought a Yamaha SCD-S1000 player in 2010.
It is very well buildt. The disc transport is high quality made, and that is very important to me.

Right out of the box it sounded very good on SACD's, better than my Vaccuumstate modded Sony player. But CDs sounded just ok....

After adding Bybee Music Rails in both the analog and digital section of the player, Vacuumstate "Super bit clock" and a few parts replaced in the analog section, CDs greatly improved in sound, SACDs even better too.

I'm very happy with my player and would go for Yamha again If buying a new today.

...

Quite right.

Don't forget that Denon and Marantz are both part of D+M Group:

EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%26M_Holdings

Most of the Denon and Marantz lines are designed and built by those respective companies. However, that doesn't extend to media players marketed by either of those companies. Media players are designed and built by third-party companies, and are simply rebranded for marketing and sale by either Denon or Marantz. I found this out when searching for my first BDP a few years ago.

I would keep a safe distance from their media players.

Only exception of this is the top-end Denon DBP-3313, which is designed and built by Denon in Japan.

Can you provide a link, or something, about the third party designing and building of D & M media players?

It's in this thread from late 2010:

One key word to search for is Funai, as that company is one of the third parties mentioned. Most of my posts in that thread are on pages 15-20.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but it's difficult to remember specific posts from that long ago.

Even if this is the case, what difference does it make if they sound good and produce a good image on screen?

I have read through everything on the links you provided. Funai seems to make a number of Denon products. I did not find any mention of Funai making any Marantz product.
