How do you guys like Once Upon A Time? There's a 5.1 of that.

LOVE it, Adam. Great sound and 5.1 mix, as well.

I can also say the DVD~A 5.1 of Once Upon A Time is awesome. When I did my big run of buying OOP DVD~A's that was one of the most expensive at $70.00, but I keep listening to it.

Speaking of this Sparkle In The Rain, for some reason I am not that motivated to replace the original problem disc that I own. Maybe I don't like the performance that much?

Mark, the musical content of the Sparkle in the Rain is a matter of personal taste. I have always looked on this album as a side project of U2, only done by other band. But there are at least two tracks worth having the entire album. For me they are Catwalk and C Moon.

The other two albums released in hi-res surrounding this one are much more attractive, indeed. But for me there are also early albums as valuable as the latter ones. Cacophony and Dance will surely deserve better release, than those compressed remasters on RBCD. I have retained all the first releases on CD which do not suffer from loudness war:

And if you take a look on the X5 box set - one word: TERRIBLE!

That's another largely unknown album for me. Alive and Kicking is awesome (imo), so also with a bit of luck, I'll end up with that album in my collection too :)

Once upon a Time is certainly recomended in surround sound.

And one day, if it falls within my mental budget, I'll get to hear it too :)

The only place where you will find the corrected 5.1 Mix of "Sparkle In The Rain" is on the replacement disc for the blu-ray edition. The replacemnet disc for the DVD-Audio of the box set edition still has the same 5.1 Mix as the initial run of faulty DVD's.

Where do I get this information from ?

I originally purchased the blu-ray edition of "Sparkle in The Rain" and soon after learned about the Mono Mix and the wrong 5.1 Mix that were pressed in error onto the disc.
I then asked Univeral Music for a replacement disc and waited about 3 months for it to be delivered. The first disc I was sent was not a replacement for the blu-ray but for the DVD-Audio from the Deluxe box set. I then asked again for a blu-ray and got one quickly afterwards.
So now I have 3 discs for the 2015 reissue of this Simple Minds album: 2 blu-ray discs and one DVD-Audio disc.
Then I chose to compare the 5.1 Mixes from all these 3 discs and what I found out was quite confusing.
The 5.1 MLP track from the new DVD sounds exactly the same as the 5.1 DTS-HD MA and PCM tracks from the initial faulty blu-ray. However there are significant changes in the 5.1 Mix available on the new blu-ray disc.
The songs I played to perform the tests are "Waterfront", "White Hot Day" and "Shake Off The Ghosts". Synth pad from the first one and drums from all three of them sound different.
Overall the new 5.1 Mix is lighter and leaves more room for each instrument to be heard distinctly. There are more details.
The difference remains quite subtle as you have to listen to each mix with segments of the same song consecutively to be able to really tell the difference.
Oddly, regarding the same 5.1 mix, the sound quality is better on the (first) blu-ray than on the DVD although both are 24bit 96Khz lossless formats...

Hi there- would you be prepared to trade the DVD-A disc? I understand that it may have a "faulty" 5.1 mix but am prepared to give it a try. Please let me know at justinnicholascampbell@gmail.com

Does anyone know how to identify the corrected version when buying in a shop?

Thanks, John
