I agree with Analogue's review. This one sounds pretty good. I can't imagine the sound being much improved upon... without a magic 5.1 wand.

Always a guilty pleasure of mine with the great Albert Lee. Have it on order.

As for the 5.1 wand, Brett.......keep waving it long enough and perhaps it'll turn into a lightsaber in time for the new Star Wars Movie.......in Dolby Atmos (54 channels)

May the Force be with you in 2015. Have a Happy!

Thanks, Ralph! All the best to you in 2015.

I've enjoyed another year with you and everybody on this forum. Maybe next year we'll win MoFi over to 5.1. (...don't hold your breathe ;-) LOL!
They did a great job with this little masterpiece. You'll LOVE it. But, I must admit one of my guilty pleasures...I prefer listening to Forever Changes in surround mode. It really helps with the complaint Analogue was referring to.

Also picked up Pretenders, Grateful Dead - American Beauty, Allman Bros - Bros & Sisters, and a bunch of DVDAs... Now I am listening to Foreigner 4. This just rocks in 5.1...simply FANTASTCI!! This is the way it should have sounded ALL along. I am most happy that I went for this DVDA instead of the 2-ch SACD version. 2015 looks to be a banner year for surround. Extremely psyched!

Live long and prosper, my friend.

I also have Foreigner and Foreigner 4 on DVD~A.......and the Gratetful Dead: American Beauty and Workingman's Dead on DVD~A 5.1. I've always loved the Warner/Rhino DVD~As and was literally heartbroken when all their announced titles were abruptly canceled.

Am hoping that sometime in 2015, the LONG delayed Warners and Sony BD~A launch finally materializes.

Besides Forever Changes, I also have the Pretender's MoFi SACD on order, as well.

I also continue to buy BIS, Pentatone, 2L and MD&G classical surround titles and of course the old standby, Perfect Sound FOREVER RBCDs to fulfill that chronic need of having contemporary Pop/Rock/Jazz titles in my way over extended collection.

And then of course the Criterion BD~Vs and esoteric off the beaten path BD~V titles which I scour the internet for.

Collectors or "Hoarders....." is there a difference?

I've got the Workingman's Dead DVDA. It's fabulous. So, I decided to just give the American Beauty SACD a try. There was a used DVDA of American Beauty, but it was obscenely expensive. Maybe next time.

Thank the stars for the Classical labels!! Their new 5.1 recordings have really shown us what a recording can and should be. I know 7, 9, and more channels are possible, but 5.1 is the foundation. And with most of the world still in the Dark Ages of 2-ch stereo, I am overjoyed with all of the glorious Multichannel recordings we've been getting these past 15 or so years. A true audio Renaissance!

You're so right about Pentatone. I was listening to the EMI DVDA of Walton - Belshazzar's Feast conducted by Previn during Xmas. While I am glad to have it, I couldn't help thinking about Pentatone's superb Quad reissues on SACD. Someone over at EMI needs to get the ball rolling on properly reissuing their Quad treasures from the 70s.

Hey! I get a lot of valuable advice from those Pickers on the History Channel. LOL! :-D

Here's a little holiday cheer from one Picker to another...

Brett, love the Dennis the Menace cartoon: "I know it's good for nothing but I'm gonna hold onto it til it's good for something."

BTW, American Beauty was also released as a Dualdisc (MLP 5.1) and they have some new and used at AmazonUS.....just type in Grateful Dead: American Beauty Dualdisc. NEW from $25...USED from $11. Same transfer used on the original Warner/Rhino DVD~A 5.1. Amazon has ONE more left in stock for $35!

Wonder if AmazonUS does drone deliveries to Tokyo, Japan?

WoW! Just ordered one of the cheaper used copies! Thanks!

Now the Dead will be able to take the Pepsi Challenge. ;-)

In a similar vein, today I also stumbled across a cheap used copy of the Trey Anastasio DVDA. Nice surround jam!

Good old Dennis the Menace. Sure glad we've got our own Mr. 'Steve' Wilson working his Mch magic..."til it's good for something"

Great score, Brett. The Trey Anastasio DVD~A is a winner in every respect.

Right now, I'm playing the Greatest Hits of the 80's LOVE album (the SONY SACD compilation made in the EU). A great way to herald in 2015.

Was just watching CNN and gaping at all those stalwart "suckers" standing in Times Square freezing their nuts off. It's going to be in the teens tonite and they have a 12-15 hour wait until the ball drops.

Well, my friend, have a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2015. You certainly have enough great music in 5.1 to surround you with LOVE, peace and happiness.

New Year's is a quiet, solemn occasion here in Japan. It's a time for prayer, remembrance and family. Actually, it's not much different than Christmas in the Western countries. I suppose I should stretch my legs and pay my respects at the local temple or shrine. It'll give me an excuse to get out and get some exercise. Tokyo is so empty and quiet. It's nice to breathe in the fresh air.

All that I've been doing is eating, listening to music, and watching the film fest on satellite TV. Last night they played the whole Lord of the Rings series back to back. This morning it was Shawshank Redemption. And I've been catching up on Game of Thrones season 4. But, my favorite was seeing the old Brideshead Revisited miniseries from 1981. They don't make'em like that anymore.

Yes, and a very immersive 2015 to you! Adam's got me all excited for the Mch releases coming this year!

Remember Ralph, "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Am not ashamed to admit I'm doing nothing this New Years Eve, either. I'm in a service business and we've been wall to wall last week and this week so I'm just going to chill out and watch one of my Criterion BD~Vs tonight.....Il Sorpasso.

Yes, the 'original' Brideshead Revisited was awesome....the remake not so much but there's not a decent Blu ray out (I have the original series on DVD). I also loved Upstairs, Downstairs and now am an avid fan of Downtown Abbey with the wonderful Maggie Smith. New season begins this coming Sunday.

My big event of the week is going to Manhattan on Saturday to see Michael C. Hall (Dexter) in Drag in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. If you have't seen the original movie version, you're in for a treat (only on DVD).

Never realized New Years was a sacred event in Japan.....quite a contrast to the merry reveling here in the states. CDJapan sort of made my day by issuing me 300 bonus points for my birthday month and 700 additional points for buying a tidy sum of SHM~SACDs over the past few months....and of course a further enticement to place another order (but at least I'll get free shipping).

Addenda: The Tiffany crystal ball just dropped in Times Square and the iconic New York, New York sung by the late Francis Albert Sinatra is blaring over the loudspeakers. Temperature right now is 18 degrees.....great if you're a skier (I'm not).

Brett, have a wonderful New Years Day and we'll continue our chat in 2015.
