Idaho is a real treat on BD~V and yes, Brett, Udo Kier (a staple of Andy Warhol films) was delightful. River Phoenix was channeling James Dean in what I consider to be his VERY finest role. Too bad he succumbed to a drug overdose at age 23!

I have Interstellar on BD~V and will have to watch it.

Caught bits and pieces of the 3rd part of the Hobbit trilogy on satellite. Also have that one in 3D.

Have a LOT of catching up to do, my amigo.

There aren't enough hours in the day OR night....as I'm a nocturnal beast....who only comes out at NIGHT.... BOO!

Oh man. I have been in hyper overdrive with movies. I woke up this fine morning to the 1961 classic Mysterious Island with Clouseau's nemesis Herbert Lom. A bit dated, but still good after all these years. Last night Avatar was on...again. Not surprisingly, there has been a whole splattering of Zombie flicks on. Always good for a laugh or two. And along with 2 British romances "Tamara Drewe" and "Summer in February", I started watching the British mystery series, Foyle's War with Michael Kitchen. And let me throw in the 5th season of Game of Thrones as well. Phew!

I think you'll dig Interstellar. It finds a good balance with those over-the-top CGI effects while still providing a thought provoking Scifi story. Good acting from all. I had no idea Matt Damon was in it. He's becoming quite a space traveller.

Funny you mention zombies, Brett. On the news the other night, there is now an infestation of Zombie Bees in America predicated by a fly laying eggs in their nests and turning them into, well, zombies.

A great genesis for a (in alphabetical order) LUTE~RAMMIEPIE co~production: Attack of the Zombie Bees.......a B movie, for sure and I'm sure it could generate a lot of buzz!

Am currently watching the BBC miniseries Indian Summers on PBS. Lot's of stuff to watch...and SO little TIME!

Based on Rick Kosick and Kal Rubinson's 'glowing' recommendations, I just placed an order for the BD~A of Ozark Henry's "Paramount" (from SONY). http://www.hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=10974

I am totally unfamiliar with this artist but am always looking for new music in hi res.

Paramount by Ozark Henry is more than a pleasant surprise for me. Occasionally a new release by a relative unknown artist (or at least to me) will grasp my musical muse but this release is not only fascinating for the exceptional quality of the songs but just as important is the orchestral setting and superb playing by the National Orchestra of Belgium. The 5.1 mix by Ronald Prent (he did the excellent DVD Audio mixes for Simple Minds "Once Upon A Time" and "New Gold Dream") is outstanding.

The previous new release to capture my imagination was Anathema's "Distant Satellites" http://www.hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=9867 , although the 5.1 is not up to the same high standard as Prent's mix.

In my opinion, both albums are remarkable Blu-ray releases.

Really enjoyed AF's recent QUAD remaster of Loggins and Messina, especially Angry Eyes. If you enjoy Kenny Loggins don't overlook this splendid Single layered Stereo SACD remaster Kenny Loggins: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. A little pricey (I paid under $8 for it back in '07).

I went on a binge this past week pre~ordering a slew of QUAD and 5.1 remasters which should keep me busy through December (Beatles 1+, Gentle Giant Octopus, YES Fragile, King Crimson THRAK, Opeth "Deliverance/Damnation, Allman Brothers 5.1 Idlewild South boxset), etc.

Should have Sly & The Family Stones Greatest Hits 4.0 soon (according to QQ's moderator Jon Urban it's a slam dunk) and does anyone still know if the upcoming Loggings/Messina Sittin' In with be QUAD? Even tried contacting Marshall Blonstein @ Audio Fidelity and still NO reply!

Michael Hedges AF Stereo SACD "Aerial Boundaries" is also forthcoming. He is one of the greatest guitarist of all times.

Another DVD~A MLP 96/24 5.1 worth seeking out: http://www.discogs.com/Gus-Black-Uncivilized-Love/release/2110585

7 DD 5.1 videos are also included.......Excellent, BTW!

A very well recorded surprise.

And for those who don't have the Todd Rundgren DVD~A MLP 5.1 of LIARS should really add this wonderful disc to your collection. And it was personally mixed into 5.1 by Todd himself...and is VERY discrete. New from $6 @ AmazonUS!
You can't even get a decent appetizer for that amount...unless you consider Chicken McTenders an appetizer.....which we used to refer to as chicken embryos!

A shit kickin', head bangin' HEAVY metal album for Markie: UFO: Lights Out In Tokyo LIVE in Discrete MLP 5.1. Played loudly, it really sounds magnificent. On the Silverline label. BUY IT!

Another Silverline DVD~A MLP 5.1: Robert Cray: Time Will Tell. Discrete and wonderful.

And I cannot emphasize enough how spectacular Gus Black "Uncivilized Love" is. Listened to it again this evening. Beautifully recorded, discrete and hi res all the way. And LOVE the sparse videos with incredible DD 5.1 sound.

Buy these SILVERLINES while they're still available and affordable. You won't regret it!

I love the Silverlines, and UFO, I am all over it.

The last two weeks I have listened to all of The Talking Heads Brick Box.
Absolutely incredible.

I think to myself, How is it, a music company can take a entire catalog, remaster it, remix it, put it in a 5.1 and CD (Dual Disc)Box Set. Nail the sound and mix quality to perfection and we are done with it.

No buying the same music over and over, surround sound, remastered stereo, over and over.

I know the answer, money.

But, congratulations to The Talking Heads for an outstanding job for the audiophile.

I wish others would follow the business model of The Talking Heads, yes that includes you Mr. Neil Young.

I purchased today the 24/96 of Jeff Beck's Truth. I will let you know after I listen to this album that I know every note and nuance, hopefully I won't be dissapointed.

Mr. Neil Young, Markie, has roughly 25 hi res discs out there both in DVD~A and BD~A.

If you don't have this box set (rare/hard to find at a decent price) start HERE http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Neil-Young-Archives-Volume-1-Blu-ray/1200/#Review

Essential!

As we all know, Neil has now invested all his energies in PONO so we probably won't be seeing any more Neil Young hi res disc releases.

BTW, the DVD~A 5.1 of Harvest (from Rhino) is screwed up royally with the channels (back/front) being totally reversed on a majority of tracks. I did reverse it recently on my Meridian 800 and it sounded fantastic but was only effective on about 6 tracks.

After The Gold Rush does have a 5.1 mix but was never released as Warners pulled the plug on all future DVD~A releases early on. Would be great if Audio Fidelity released this gem (and the corrected Harvest) as 5.1 SACDs!

Totally agree with your assessment of the Talking Heads BRICK dualdiscs: FANTASTIC as are all the REM DVD~A 5.1/RBCD releases.

..... I used the Oppo BDP-95 to compare Harvest through my Denon Receiver via 2 methods: the HDMI and a 5.1 cable patch with front and rear channels reversed .....

Yes, Neil Young's Harvest has his vocals noticeably placed in the rear channels for Tracks 1-4 (Out on the Weekend, Harvest, A Man Needs A Maid, Heart of Gold) and Track 6 (Old Man). On the reversed 5.1, it was readily apparent it was of inferior sound quality: the rears emitted audio that was basically drums and bass with a less robust soundfield. Yes the vocals were more prevalent at the front but the mix lost some balance. Dull would be a good word to describe it.

.......

I have read some comments over the years about the vocals screwing up the mix by coming out of the rear channels. I never bought into it. Young's vocals are very well integrated into the 5.1 mix that is highly immersive and enveloping. It was mixed the way Neil Young wanted it to be heard....

Ralph,

Post #1379 June 23, 2015. In response to your query to me on Neil Young's Harvest 5.1 mix.
