Both "Pretzel logic" and "Countdown to Ecstasy" will be released this summer.
Most probably DSD flat transfers from original masters.

Indeed!

Can "Aja" be far behind?

I see.

I was hoping for a new multi-channel release on standard SA-CD.

If only...

as far as I know, there's been two attempts over the last 15 years to remix Aja in 5.1.. DTS Entertainment tried it first in the late 90's for DTS CD release but could not locate the multitracks for Black Cow and the title track.. then Universal had a go at getting it remixed for SACD a few years later but the multi's for those two songs were still missing.

I can't fathom why the labels didn't just upmix those two songs and do a genuine remix of the other 5. Less than ideal but at least the majority of the album would be in 5.1 rather than not at all and if it were to be released in surround that way, albeit with those compromises, so long as the buyer was made aware before purchasing or something along those lines, I don't see the problem.

Steven Wilson has done just that with his 5.1 mixes for Hawkwind's Warrior On The Edge Of Time and The Yes Album where there were no multi's available and he upmixed them and made mention of it in the liner notes. Pretty effective upmixes too imho.

That could be done - A&M's release of The Police greatest hits Multichannel SACD includes an upmix to 5.1.

But you would need the agreement and approval of Steely Dan to do that as well.

V.true. I suspect if Elliot Scheiner could do decent upmixes or get them done by someone he trusts (if he is unable or not prepared to do them himself) of those two tracks, Don & Walt would give the go ahead.. though we all know they're out and out perfectionists so maybe they wouldn't settle for that?

I would have no problem with this as long as full disclosure is documented in the marketing literature.

This is significantly better than the "all or nothing at all" stance in place currently.
