I would like to carry the discussion over from /showthread/116817//y?page=first.
For those interested in exploring Gabrieli's music further, this is another superb collection of his works (and 3 pieces by Bartolomeo Barbarino) that was released in 2012 for the 400th anniversary of Gabrieli's death. While not dedicated to only brass music as Pentatone's is, this one from Arts Music also offers wonderful performances of Gabrieli's vocal and organ music in excellent Mch sound. It features an imaginative program of music that could have been heard in the early 17th century. As such, it is similar to Paul McCreesh's Venetian Coronation or Gabrieli: Music for San Rocco - McCreesh. Perhaps it has slightly less fanfare, but impressive nonetheless... and hauntingly beautiful. Here's a review. (I hope this one is allowed).
