Can anyone recommend some indie-rock titles on SACD? Aside from Death Cab for Cutie, I've found zilch. Or even some non-adultcontemporary rock suggestions would be welcome.

Check out the Suitcase Pimps SACD. Good indie rock and killer tunes. They got it at Tower online but it's cheaper at cdbaby.

There's also dredg--el cielo; muse--hullabaloo (this is an import); grant lee phillips--mobilize; cowboy junkies--open. The last may verge on the adultcontemporaryrock category, but cowboy junkies are still indie. Mission of Burma have a new one coming out on sacd (on Matador!--a good sign of things to come). For more electronic stuff, Groove ARmada has several sacds (also imports, though) and Bjork's Vespertine is coming too. For hip-hop/R&B, there's Ludacris and Musiq.

yeah, I wish there were more.

I'm looking for different types of music as well. Not necessarily indie rock, but what about bands like:

Radiohead
Sigur Ros
Mum
Notwist
The Beatles
Air
Dntel
Coldplay
Massive Attack
Royksopp
Nuspirit Helsinki
Herbert
Charles Webster

I know that's a random selection, but you get my point. There are so many good albums out there that would sound fantastic in the SACD format. Will we ever see a large selection of titles or will "Classical Music" always rule the SACD empire?

What's the frequency of releases for this medium? Is it picking up steam? I'm glad to see Beck, Peter Gabriel and Groove Armada on board, but is that it?

Thanks,

Fife

Currently, the release rate is about 3 SACDs a day (on average). This is up from six months ago. If you're pining for a particular band you may have to wait a while ... but there's plenty of interesting titles coming out, not just classical.

Thanks Zeus... I found the upcoming list at: "/upcoming.php" I dug through it and was excited to see Bjork's "Vespertine" coming out. Other than that, the pickin's were slim.

Is there another source of upcoming titles that I should take a look at?

Thanks for your help,

Fife

I think you'll find this the most comprehensive listing of SACDs anywhere. I endeavour to list every SACD available worldwide. However, there are more titles "in the works" and these are mentioned on any number of other sites, forums etc. Some see the light of day, some don't. I only list stuff that I'm fairly certain will be released soon-ish. A few of these upcoming titles are however starting to look like no-shows so maybe a bit of pruning is in order.

I suggest you check the "recent additions" pages (say) once a week. This way you'll hear about everything as it's coming out.

Great, well thank you for your help. I'm new to SACD and am nothing but thrilled with it. I think I might pick up that Roxy Music release - I've heard good things about it.

Thanks again,

Fife
