Tony Malaby has 2 titles on Songlines, both of which are, to my ear, absolutely stunning sonically and musically:

And Misha Mengelberg has a couple of DSD/SACD discs, one with free jazz all-stars Dave Douglas and Han Bennink:

Misha Mengelberg Quartet: Four In One

Thanks; I had completely missed those (esp. Malaby). On to my wish list at this very moment...

Of the newer improv outings, this one's pretty good too, quite nice and often lyrical and with very good sonics: Enrico Pieranunzi: Improvised Forms for Trio

Amazing how many of these 'out' titles are under the radar. Some things just hit my to-buy list.

I'd also make a case for Wayne Horvtiz, another Songlines product. His chamber-y quartet with Peggy Lee and Ron Miles is exquisite (and a rare example of jazz bassoon!):

Wayne Horvitz Gravitas Quartet: Way Out East

John Gilmore is on 3 SACDs, in fact, including this session with Cliff Jordon:

Cliff Jordan and John Gilmore: Blowing In From Chicago

But it does seem like avant-jazz is considered too risky. All of Jackie McLean's best sessions remain redbook only, despite a ton being released. Old and New Gospel and Let Freedom Ring, please.

Yes, and a big "pretty please." AP have done just about everything else by him except these two true treasures really worth revisiting!

As for these ORG Music SACDs, one could always go push them on the FB pages: https://www.facebook.com/orgmusiclabel

People's voice and will have achieved bigger things in this world.

You got my hopes up! But John Gilmore is really only on two SACDs. I just submitted a correction to the description on Freddie Hubbard: The Body & The Soul, which incorrectly duplicates the description of Freddie Hubbard: The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard. Wayne Shorter and Eric Dolphy are the saxophones on "The Body a& the Soul".

ORG's 45 RPM LP set of "Ole Coltrane" just arrived in the bins at my local record store. That's a title I very much wanted to hear on SACD. I'm going to take up Polarius T's suggestion to share our discontent on ORG's facebook page.

OT, but for those interested in avant-garde jazz on LP, I can recommend the new Blue Note 75 series vinyl release of Eric Dolphy's "Out to Lunch", remastered by Alan Yoshida. A landmark session that should have been released on SACD by Analogue Productions when they were releasing Blue Note titles.

I agree about Out to Lunch being a landmark session that should have been on SACD (but it's never too late!). But a note of warning regarding the new Blue Note remaster for the LPs: it's most probably based on the digital transfers (96) they did for this series, not cut from the analogue tapes (I've got the 33rpm 1998 remaster, which is cut from analogue). And why would you want to have an LP of an old analogue recording based on digital transfers? See this video with Bernie Grundman re the new transfers:

After I purchased the Blue Note 75 LP of Out to Lunch, I went online and read about its possible digital provenance. Then I auditioned the new LP against my copies of the 1998 Blue Note Connoisseur LP and the 1970s UA Blue Note pressing. Compared to each of those other versions, I prefer the new LP by a wide margin. It has all the same virtues as Alan Yoshida's Audio Wave XRCD Blue Note remasters. It would be helpful -- and respectful of the small but enthusiastic market -- if the label disclosed whether a title was sourced directly from an analog master or a 24/96 file. The community should encourage Blue Note to release this info on the Blue Note 75 series website. In this case, the proof for me was in the listening.

Anyone who has the ear of the powers that be at Analogue Productions: urge them to pick up the announced but unreleased ORG SACD titles. It would be interesting to know if any of those recordings have already been remastered preparatory to SACD manufacturing.

Apparently SACDs of Dolphy's Outward Bound, Far Cry and Live at the Five Spot are in the works from AP. Why Out to Lunch is not in that stack is baffling, but these might just be the first round. And the Archie Shepp titles are being reprinted, as well, so there's always hope.

I wish labels like Aum Fidelity would get on the SACD bandwagon. Their '3-d sound' titles are stunning enough on redbook, but to hear David S. Ware, William Parker and Hamid Drake in high-res would be almost overwhelming.

Suddenly, I feel so exhilarated, at the mere mention of all those (certain-to-be-missed) opportunities!

Maybe there's life left to be lived in the SACD jazz domain, after all, says the persevering little optimist inside me.

Now, everyone log off and go post stuff on their FB walls and discussion fora! Emails might work even better (shows bigger effort, hence more dedication).
