Another Membran thats a bargain..quality sonics and beautifull tone.excellent detail...The performer had another earlier version of this out on Decca which was very highly regarded...So Its a case of which colour suit you want him playing it in...I have about 5 versions and these Rodrigo warhorses this the equal of any.even some nice touches I hadnt noticed in other vaersion...Nothing even remotely contoversial in speeds or interpretation.. .The bonus of some short Spanish Fillers to make up the hours music is also well worth a listen... so much so I would welcome a solo disc of the artist.......The usual caveat...if you want a break betwen works then be ready with that remote control....

Apologies, just a quickie review to dispel/contradict the first one, with which I disagree mightily and utterly.

The performances are soporific and unidiomatic. The orchestra sounds as though it has lost interest and wandered off for a drink or two at the bar (and some of those guys at the RPO can really put it away...)

The soloist part is correct, but lethargic and uninvolving.

All, in all, it would be harder to think of a less passionate and sun-drenched reading of these evocative pieces.

Sonically, it's a bog-standard Membran - multi-miked, artificial balance, screechy PCM strings and non-existent breaks between tracks.

What, you really expected better? Even if you cans till find one at bargain prices, it's still not worth the effort, I'm afraid.

If anyone has a copy of the Mercury for sale, please let me know...!

Performance:   Sonics:
Having recently upgraded my SACD player I turned to this album, which has never before succeeded in holding my attention.

I have to say that it now sounds magnificent! I'm not qualified to speak on the technicalities of the musical performance but my ears know what they like and they now like this. The sound of the solo guitar is beautiful and well differentiated from the orchestra. If the balance is artificial, as one reviewer describes it, then it is not so to my ears, though I suppose trying to make a classical guitar heard over against an orchestra could be considered by definition an exercise in artificiality.

As a hi-fi buff who loves music rather than a qualified musician I love this. Entrancing maybe, but definitely not soporific on my player!
