Sounds really sweet especially when considering the age of the source. I'd never owned any original Kottke stuff but had heard many covers by Michael Hedges and others. Not a surround masterpiece here. Most of the program comes through the front and center channels but multi does sound better than stereo. Rear channels are used very sparingly and mostly are a diminished mirror of the fronts. Sonic quality is decent (as it should be for a 2003 release anyway) but ... more

This SACD is a great example of taking an older recording and actually *improving* it... many "remasters" trying to do this have missed badly. Like the other reviews, I can't even stand to listen for more than a few minutes in multi. Harsh as hell, a real sonic disaster and just barely tolerable in 2 ch. It's a shame because Jar of Flies is one of my favorite CD's sonically too. Don't waste your money on this one.
