How was that concert in Cincinnati? I do a lot of work down there and thought about driving down that weekend to hear the concert. I was interested in Ms. Fischer's performance, obviously, but the orchestra's reading of The Planets piqued my curiosity, as well, since they were set to record it for Telarc. ... more | |

I have to agree. In terms of performances and sonics, I almost universally prefer Telarc's other "cycle" (split between Levi and Lopez-Cobos, and not quite complete). Without the discussions, these are non-starters. Even with them, they are only mildly interesting. I'm surprised how often he speaks in non-musical terms about his views on Mahler. ... more |
