Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent, Hybrid SACD, Stereo. Analogue Productions released 2014.

This is Ted's first solo release in 1975. Lots of good notes on the Acoustic Sounds site.

Performance: My first LP with Nugent was Cat Scratch Fever, this is my first ownership of this disc. Truly a great performance and along the lines of the classic hard rock 70's sound. Drums, bass and two guitars. A very hard driving disc and all tracks are good with blazing guitar. Note, lead vocals are by Derek St. Holmes on all tracks except Ted Nugent lead vocals on Motor City Madhouse. Nine tracks in all.

Stereo Sonics: All I needed was the opening track, Stranglehold, to be convinced this was a great SACD. Within the one song there are highs, lows, sound waves going right and left, strings vibrating and crunching, drums, cymbals resonating a great reissue from master tapes. Music plays well loud and of course preferred. Little nuances like tambourine, breath, and the feel of a great guitarist is certainly well done. Vocals are center and bass and drums come center during guitar solos. Plenty of feedback, reverb, and overall slammin guitar. A real good spot to hear the great sonics is the end of track 7, resonating, filling the room, cymbal crash and then track 8 goes in a different direction with a jazzy track with vibes, very cool. No noise between tracks.

Packaging: Plastic jewel case with round corners. Original front and rear. Mini paper booklet with lyrics and small liner note about Ted and recording info.

Great 70's hard rock hybrid sacd done very well. Glad I have it.

Thank you to the previous reviewer for giving me the heads up regarding this title. I can confirm that this sacd is one of the very best rock sacd titles I own. It really is awesome in virtually every way.

I cant force anyone to buy music if they don't like the artist or group. I have many gorgeous sounding sacd;s that I seldom listen to because I don't like the music. If you are not a fan of Nugent or this album it would be a real pity as you would be missing out on a truly spectacular listen.

Stranglehold, Hey baby and motor city madhouse are still played on Corporate classic rock stations although the first cut is played mostly. Its a great rock classic and it sounds insanely great on this sacd. I thought I knew what it sounded like but was I ever wrong. Its both hypnotic and addictive. The guitar playing has a different, more real tone to it than I have ever heard. Its the surprising 3 nature of this cut and the whole album that really impresses me. Its always alive in this way.

The dynamic nature of rock is captured perfect here. This is a terrific recording and this contributes mostly as to why this new disc is great. Whatever particular qualities one likes in their rock music......whether if be sound stage, 3d character, vocals, separation, bass and low end impact.....this sacd has it all. And the treble is perfectly natural with no glare or etch. I can barely find anything to criticize. If there is a rock title close to perfection.......this might be it.

Again I'll say that if the Motor City Madman is not your cup of tea..........if you don't like some, bitching sounding tracks...............mores the pity. Yes Nugent is not the Beatles or Led Zeppelin but I bet those sacd transfers if they are ever done would sound better than this.

This sacd....like all good sacds must be played loudly. If your system allows it you will be one happy camper and wont be moving from your chair anytime soon.

Outstanding job by Ryan Smith.

Highly recommended with no hesitations whatsoever. A perfect rock sacd.
