We have very modern sounding big band jazz here. The material played reaches from the classic The look of Love (with singer Penny Ford) to the modern Freedom Jazz Dance and e. g. the best version of Birdland I know. The big band playing is not as usual, not the big orchestral sound mostly, it is more like a small band accompanied by brass and woodwinds. The focus lies on soloing but there is also fantastic interplay, modern arrangements and very thrilling interpretations of the well known material. A very captivating disc that is fun and pleasure listening to, also because the sound is perfect, rich of colour, very good soundstage and imaging, air for the instruments to breath, very dynamic, brilliant.
