Performance:   Sonics:
Great recording showing Williams flawless technique. A bit much to listen to all the way through, as is any 60+ minutes of mostly solo guitar. The African guitar pieces are nice sketches, and sound very new filtered through the formal structure of classical guitar, Williams does them justice putting both side by side on the shelf with equal shine.

This is a wonderful recording of a wonderful performance. It's most reminiscent of the Kronos Quartet's 'Pieces of Africa', with western string instruments blending with African percussion. Great Sunday brunch music, very live sound.

BTW, this is John Williams the classical guuitarist, not the film score hack.

Performance:   Sonics:
Wow! John Williams is a musical treasure who I hold in high regard. In terms of technical skill he's as good as (if not better than) Parkening and Segovia. But he truly excels at providing passion to a performance. This disc goes in several very unexpected directions for Williams, and does so with great success. The African tracks are so refreshing and new that I just can't get enough. Similarly, the voice work in several tracks is a surprise, but it's a welcome one. The recording quality is superb, and the performances are second to none. If you like guitar and are interested in hearing it in new ways, this is a must own disc.
