Performance:
A wonderful addition to the format, Carmen McRae's Great American Songbook featuring Joe Pass on Guitar, Chuck
Flores on Drums, Chuck Domanico on bass and Jimmy Rowles on Piano is one of those dream concerts that I wish I was in attendance at.

Ms McRae effortlessly soars through 24 brilliant cuts encompassing Ellington, Mercer, Strayhorn, Bacharach, Mancini, VanHeusen, et alia, managing to make each performance her own.

The entire original two record set including all of her witty and wise intertrack banter is contained on one stereo SHM~SACD.

The 1972 live set recorded at Los Angeles jazz club Dantes sparkles with a very dynamic recording......and preserves the venue nicely.

All in all, as this is my first Warner Japan SHM~SACD (as well as Bill Evans: You Must Believe in Spring w/3 bonus cuts) it is wonderful to have this reluctant SACD label on board, finally.

A stellar addition to anyone with a penchant for Carmen McRae and her crackerjack back~up ensemble......and an even more insatiable thirst for Universal Japan to finally tackle Ella Fitzgerald's resplendent Songbooks!
