Reviews: 4 show all

Review by ravnspore May 22, 2003 (2 of 4 found this review helpful)
Performance:   Sonics:
Nice enough, but I wish she would make an album
of swinging big band style music instead of all the
"sugar-coated" ballads. Saying that Cole's chops are
outstanding compared to the hord of other singers who
claim to be "jazz-singers"!
The reason for me wanting the more big band style is
that on those tracks Mrs. Cole really kicks, and the
arrangements also, and what sounds better than a big
band in full swing, especially in surround.
If it had not been for the surround track, I may probably
not have bought this album, as it is lacking in peformance
form her ultimate classic, "Unforgettable"(wish they
would make that album into a SACD 5.1) but as mentioned
above she is a reall jazz singer and that is worth the
price of admission alone (sorry Miss Krall and others).
So if you like this kind of music performed by one of
the best around, buy this album, instead of the hundreds
of other "pretenders".

Sonically the surround mix is among the better, but
in high-fidelity terms it may disappoint.
