Performance:   Sonics:
This sure is a fine performance which rivals all but the best readings out there. The Multi-ch presentation is very detailed and has a good sense of spaciousness. However there is one caveat with this SACD: It is one of the few discs which are Multi-ch ONLY. There is NO accompanying Hi-Rez Stereo Layer which means the disc will not play in Stereo SACD Players such as the Sony DVP-S9000ES and the like. Of course you can still play the RBCD layer for stereo, but that's probably not what you will want purchase this disc for.

This has been my reference recording of the 9th and I rediscovered it with great pleasure on SACD. I can't be 100% honest about my appreciation of the performance as it is the first I ever listened to and one I usually listened to numerous times at night to calm down after a hard day during my studies. I also saw the live performance with Dohnanyi conducting the New Philharmonia.
The sound, though not as good as one if the latest DSD recordings, is really good. I also own the Beethoven 9th with Bernstein in this series, I have to say the Dvorak is much better. I don't understand how a reviewer can rate 1/2 star on sound after saying the sound is very good, just because the sacd only contains CD and MC tracks. A warning is OK but seeing such a poor rating could deter a lot of people who wouldn't even be interested in the stereo layer.
So if you are looking for a great performance with great sound in MC with an excellent remastering this is whatbyou are looking for.
If you are looking for this performance in stereo you can still buy this SACD for the cd layer as it is probably cheaper than the RBCD only version.
The accompanying Smetana's Moldau is a great piece too.
