In the meantime, let's just keep reminding (forgetful) members that posting direct-to-vendor links deprives the site of a much needed source of financial support.

Alas, this doesn't make financial sense because it throws out the information 'gains from trade'.

Example:
A disc normally sells for $20. Every time someone buys the disc using the link from a supported site, they contribute about $1 to zeus, without any user being worse off, which is great.

Now suppose there is a special on at a 'non-sponsored' site ... offering the same disc for $5. You could buy the disc from the cheap place, and instead of giving zeus just $1, you could give zeus $14 (14 times the amount) ... and everyone would still be better off.

The point is: not knowing about the special ... or just discarding that information about the special ... is just poor economics. It completely throws away the $15 saving in return for a $1 contribution that probably wouldn't have happened anyway ... because you are probably only buying the disc because it is on special for $5.

--

One might counter-argue then that the problem is that most people won't voluntarily donate money to a site ... But that reply also rather misses the point ... because it is precisely juicy information tidbits that keep people coming back and using a site such as this in the first place.

A membership fee is not a bad idea, after all you not only get details of all new releases in a convenient form with price comparisons BUT ALSO your library and works list neatly cataloged. Surely it's worth a sub of $50 p a? Non-members could have access to the info on new releases and read the forum but not contribute. This would help filter out the smart alex's who like to cause mischief but contribute little else.

There is something wrong with you.

I got lost in your logic but you're misrepresenting what I'm saying. If you do some searches you'll find that I myself have posted information on other vendors offering what I think are real bargains (though not where it's an obvious mistake). Thankfully this forum hasn't yet degenerated into the long threads (hundreds of posts) I've read elsewhere on where to buy something for the absolute cheapest price. Some people's time is apparently worth about 5 cents an hour.

The real issue here is that I don't want this forum turning into yet another rumour site. Rumours and unconfirmed information aren't good for the format. Discs that don't eventuate or are mistakenly represented are a turn-off. Some people here seem to have a pretty loose definition of "announced". By all means if you come across something interesting coming in the future, do the extra work and find it on the corresponding label site so we can all benefit from reliable information. People will make up their own mind if, when and where to buy it ... I'd recommend doing so based on the most complete information closer to the release date.

I'll be 100% honest I feel like an idiot for starting this thread at this point cause I haven't really seen a single reply on topic discussing these awesome upcoming releases. Coming from a past administrator of a worldwide forum years ago I completely understand and respect the rational for not putting in the URLs but the intention was obviously not to break a rule or to harm the well being of this site, so Zeus I want to personally apologize because I understand the contemplations of running a forum.

Now onto the gritty shit. I created this thread so we could discuss these great titles that are too be released in the next few months on this elite music format we love. Nothing else. Not to bitch and moan about the obvious because it is clear what the obvious is, a misunderstanding with the intent to inform the people here. Since I have joined these forums I have learned so much about my personal favorite music format. So for that I say thanks and that was my goal for this thread. If people want to keep complaining about beliefs sourcing from my posts than I request this thread be closed. I end my hypocritical rant.

ANYWAYS... CDJapan updated the descriptions. They had produced by Donald Fagan on all of them before hehe. I actually just ordered on ebay the MFSL OMR of Katy Lied, even though apparently there were a lot of issues with the master tapes I would imagine this is as close as it would get to what Fagan and Becker wanted. Seeing Steely Dan at Tanglewoods on Tuesday, can't wait!
