While I understand the etymology (Hybrids coming as a bolt-on to Single Layer SA-CD) "SA-CD" is now synonymous with Hybrids (though not all new SA-CDs are Hybrids). While "CD-compatible layer of an SA-CD" makes sense, "SA-CD layer of an SA-CD" doesn't. Anyway, this is my feeble attempt to stamp out the terminology!
I wish you luck. Sometimes, though, it can be effective to flout standardization in an effort to explain.

Even at the SA center we've got no machines that'll access such content. (And I've fiddled with the [now dead] 'First Philips SACD player' prototype and stuff. I was trying to revive it, actually. Real shame that that one's dead... Furore chip :( ... [Anyone want to donate one so we can get a piece of history working again, heh?] ..)
And none of our authoring tools (Philips or Sony) have any such function to even put the material on there. I'll have a harder look-see later on and see if Gus or Demery knows something I don't (very, very possible) but I don't think it was ever used beyond being placed in the Scarlet Book spec.

I have a question. I am new to SACD but not the terminology and the concept. So, I bought this Sony Bluray player that also plays SACD (so it claims). I went and bought Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, A hybrid DSD SACD. Now, If I play it in my bluray player, will it play as a SACD or a CD. Wikipedia says "Hybrid: The most popular of the three types, hybrid discs include a Red Book layer compatible with most ordinary Compact Disc players, dubbed the "CD layer," and a 4.7 GB SACD layer, dubbed the "HD layer. " Please help
I am also a recent convert to SACD but my Sony SCD-XE595 is slowly losing the ability to read the SACD layer of my discs. Can I ask which particular Sony Bluray player you just bought as I did not think any of the current models played SACD discs?
Many Thanks, Geoff

All thirteen BD players and BD home theater systems Sony's announced this year are SACD-compatible.

Thanks for that.
They're not exactly shouting about it, are they? I checked the Sony UK website (very poor) and it looks like it's 2 channel only although I note that the BDP-S770 due to be released in the autumn promises multi-channel analogue outs. I might wait for that one as my receiver does not process audio via HDMI.
Thanks again, Geoff

I purchased the S570 for its streaming and Blu Ray capabilities and just stumbled upon its SACD feature once I already had it. I can confirm it does MCH, but only vis HDMI. It does not support DVD-A.
