The US release of the next batch of 10 is scheduled for Jan 25. I thought the first batch was eye-opening and bought all 10-glad I did. I'm not as sure I want all of the second 10-I'm not too interested in the 2 Fiedler discs, the Gould disc, and I'm so happy with the Fischer Dvorak 8/9 that I don't feel the need for the Reiner Dvorak 9 (I have another handful of Dvorak 9th's in other mediums as well-Szell, Kertesz, Talich, Kubelik). I'm likely to get the others (Munch/Piatigorsky Cello Concertos, Heifetz in more violin concertos, Rubenstein in Brahms 1, Munch Ravel/Debussy, Reiner's Scheherazade) and am on the fence with respect to the Munch Berlioz Requiem (I recently acquired this performance on reel to reel tape, for a few dollars). Since the Requiem cries out for surround sound, and this is not, I'm not sure of a reason to buy this on SACD, although it has a terrific reputation as a performance (I haven't heard my tape, yet). I have the Spano performance, but am still hoping for a Davis remake.

According to an article in the latest Fanfare, a total of 30 Living Stereo releases are expected on SACD. I hope they go further than that, there are many interesting things in the RCA back catalog.

With respect to RCA Living Stereo SACDs: What you get is 3.1 SACD, NOT 5.1 and I found that to be a large drawback.

The ambiance of 5.1 is persuasive.

I think it must be 3.0, not 3.1. Anyway, I am certainly on record in this forum as a major advocate of multichannel sound, so at that level, I agree with you.....but, first and foremost with me is performance (love the Schnabel recordings of the Beethoven sonatas) and would rather hear a brilliant performance in indifferent sound than a mediocre performance in the best. Do I wish these were 5.0 or 5.1-you betcha-but still, many of them are great. I want to see more multichannel releases, but I'll also take the Living Stereo and the Mercuries as well.

I see that the entire second "Living Stereo" set is being shipped next week. Obviously very exciting news. No one seems to have commented about the Morton Gould "Brass and Percussion" disc. I wonder what's on it? For me, the high point will be the Munch Berlioz Requiem. An absolutely glorious performance, which sounds truly excellent on LP, but which the standard CD seemed to emasculate (figuratively speaking). Hopefully, the full splendour will return.

So, just how many did RCA make of these? Some are out of print, others just keep going and going and going.

Sadly, they stopped releasing them far too early as there were many more treasures amongst them that would have benefited from hi-rez treatment.

Still, it's history now. I don't expect there will ever be any more.

I'm not sue who 'they' are any more. Certainly, Sound Mirror are still in rude health so if the tapes exist it just need somebody like Teresa or Tom to kick the ball into play?

Sure, Sound Mirror produced the discs but it was people further up in the pecking order ("they") who decided what Living Stereo's were to be released as SACDs. John Newton was asked at one stage on an early forum when the next lot of SACD 'LS's was to be released and he stated that he hadn't been advised - and that was the end of it!!

It was a great series, nonetheless.

As I implied earlier, needs to be more pro-active and not wait to be asked?
