I've had this on order from JPC for many weeks - it is already well overdue for its stated issue date and no sign of a future date. The Van Swieten Society is an early music group from the Netherlands, playing on period instruments, but I couldn't glean anything more from their web-site, this seems to be their first recording.

Regards,
John

I believe they have recorded the complete Haydn Piano Trios for Brilliant not as SACD though.

Thank you for your review, Mr. Miller. We (the Van Swieten Society) are happy that our recording has been received well. Allow me to rectify a few small details:
We are sorry to have ommitted details about our instruments. Frank van de Brink's historical clarinet was made by Dutch builder Peter van der Poel. My fortepiano is a Viennese original by Zierer, ca 1825. The recording was made by Peter Arts of Arts Music Productions. Albert van Houwelingen is manager of the Quintone label. The name of the fortepianist is pianist Bart (not Fran) van Oort. The liner notes are written (as in many of our cd's) by American fortepianist Sylvia Berry.
As for another discussion in this forum: The Van Swieten Society has recorded quite a few cd's before the Weber recording, one of which on the Quintone label, called Beethoven's Beethoven (2008). This recording features arrangements of Beethoven's works by Beethoven himself: the Second Symphony arranged for piano trio and the piano and winds Quintet arranged for piano and three strings. Besides, the VSS recorded the Complete Piano Trios by Haydn (released in 2005 by Brilliant Classics). On the VSS website there is a listing of recordings.

Dear VanOort,

Are you aware that when listening to this SACD in Multi-channel mode, the out-of-balance heavily favors the left side due to the incorrect assignment of 3 of the 5 channels? First, I made sure that my analog output connectors were connected correctly, and they were. Then, after much analysis (the picture of the recording session in the booklet helped), I discovered that 3 of the 5 channels on the SACD were assigned to the wrong channel. The Right Front is actually the Right Rear and the Right Rear is actually the Center Channel, and the Center Channel is actually the Right Front. Since my SACD player has 7.1 analog outputs in the back I was able to correct this by re-arranging the output connectors. Once the connectors were re-arranged to correct for the incorrectly assigned channels, I was able to listen correctly to the SACD in 5.0 multi-channel mode and the balance was much better. I then had to put back the connectors to their original positions after listen, so my other SACDs would play correctly. I have well over 100 multi-channel SACDs, so I am sure of the mistake on your Weber SACD.

Jeff
